NUMBER OF RELAYS

Post by Jorge022770 »

Friends: It's better if I don't express the level of frustration for my 2nd year in a row unable to do Solvang......

So, in my '68 1600 I was checking all the relays and connections (wiring diagram + standing in front of the car)..I have the two "cylinder-looking" ones under driver's inside (flashers, hazards), then I have the headlight one, the passing lights one.......but according to the diagram there should be a horn relay somewhere aroung there and I can't find neither the relay, nor the wires that would connect to it..........What's the deal?

Now, I have also problems with the headlights....since I put everything together, the tail and front parking lights work, but not the headlights...I cleaned the contacts and put the electric grease, but nothing! Any advice?

The horn and headlight relays are under the hood on the left hand inner fender. They are rectangular boxes. Best of luck!

Don't feel too bad. I have never made it to Solvang. Then again, I live in Florida...

Sid:

Thanks for the reply......and about Solvang, at least you have compelling reasons!

Now, about the relays, the diagram says that there should be 3 (headlights, horn, and passing lights) of them outside in the inner fender......but I don't have the one corresponding to the horn (I figured this because of the wire colors on the ones I DO have..... :?

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, but I missed Road Atlanta this year too. It is relatively close.

On the relays, I would be REALLY surprised if you have the passing light relay. I have never seen a car equipped with that switch even though it shows up in the owners manual. Anyway, I suspect that the one that you are IDing as the passing light relay is probably the horn relay.

Jorge,
On my old 68 I was having headlight issues as well and it turned out to be the fuse box, too much resistance built up in the connections, fuse would get too hot and melt connection inside the fuse itself. Visibly the fuse looked good, but no worky. Check your fuse box and see if the plastic around the connections have started melting. Then check continuity through the fuses.

Just a thought. Good luck.
