tranny fluid

Post by baldandtopless »

i just finished replacing all the fluids and had all the zerks greased on my 70 1600, except for one, my transmission. i couldnt get the damn refill bolt loose! any ideas? its also leaking a bit of tranny fluid and i was wondering if there were any other places it could leak from other than the oilpan gasket, specifically where that rubber hose is connected on the transmission, next to the pan. any info. would be much appreciated.

You may have better luck with the reverse switch. Some folks have used that as a fill port in a pinch.

The rubber hose sounds like the hose to the slave cylinder. It could leak, but it would be leaking brake fluid, not gear oil...

where is the reverse switch located? how much gear oil would i have to use, as i usually just go with "until it starts dripping of fill hole" method. thanks for the help.

I'm going from memory here, but I believe that the reverse light switch is on the right hand side about half way up the transmission. The late cars also had a neutral switch in about the same area. Either would probably work. Fill to the bottom of the hole is what most folks do. I don't recall the spec, and don't have my manual handy.
