Fleet Week 2012 October 4-8 2012

Post by roadsterdude »

Anybody know of a great spot to watch the air show during fleet week?

I would love to drive the roadster to the city and watch the Blue Angels..

It will probably crazy congested driving around the city, but it would be fun to find a place to park and watch the air show..

A few years ago we saw them fly from the Marin side over by the Golden Gate Coast Guard station. Parking was easy and it wasn't too crowded.

Input this into Google Maps:

inspiration point overlook san francisco, ca

It is a spot inside the Presidio near the south gates, near the Presidio Golf Club. When you are in Google Maps, go into "street view" mode and you can see the parking lot and its view over the Bay. Good spot away from crowds. Even if there are others there, plenty of other parking in that area. Also a great point to then drive down to Baker Beach.

About 16 years ago, when I was in the Navy, our ship (USS Coronado) was berthed at the pier next to the Aquarium, like 37? I think there was like an old sub there also.. Anyway..

The show was unreal, between the flight deck and Alcatraz...

No idea where you would park though..

I dunno. Joining the Navy to get good seats to an airshow seems a bit excessive.

That would be a nightmare near Pier 39..It's already a nightmare during regular weekends.
But I agree it would be a nice vantage point to watch the show..

Thank You.
