Which hood pins do Roadster Racers use?

Good question. I just run the stock latch. I've never been questioned on it.

If your going to have a lift-off hood then use steel pins. The aluminum ones will stress fracture and fail. If they are holding your hood on then it could get ugly. If your using a front hinged hood and just pins to hold down the rear it doesn't matter so much if you have a failure. I use just one steel pin to hold the back of the hood on the 240Z. I haven't found any commercial ones that are great. I prefer to make my own and use thicker stainless washers on the body work as the washers that come with the commercial ones are very thin. For my new Honda race car project I made the pins out of titanium.

Just drill some holes, install some bolts and top them off with these fancy chrome spike nuts. Along with some nice sturdy chrome washers, your hood is locked down! You have to unbolt it to release. That sucker wont fly off.......no way! And you get to keep your spike theme.

these are badass, but they're $200. I found some decent steel ones for $15.



In stainless, I'll upgrade the screws to bolts. 13 bucks!

Are you installing a carbon fiber or fiberglass hood? Honestly, I can't bring myself to drill holes in the car to install hood pins. I will if I'm forced to, but until that point, I'll stick with my stock setup. Would it be cool to loose some weight up front? You bet. Can I do it for either my autoX class, or vintage racing? Nope.

Will, just the hood pins don't move you to another class, right? you meant a replacement hood?

I'm tired of reaching under the dash every day when I show someone "what I got".
Hood pins look cool and I can remove all the hood latch parts.

Four holes don't bother me a bit. Already drilled a bunch for the roll bar, battery, airdam, etc.

I am very supportive of your individualism and the attention you have given Spike thus far, but I promptly took the hood pins off of my first 69 and had them welded over and replaced. Reworked the stock latch to make it work right and never had a problem... Hood pins are for a tubbed out 84 Monza.

You are way taller than me and you guys in Cali never close your windows, so you should be able to reach from outside the car... Or go pimp and rig up a remote popper and a hydraulic hood stay...

I hate the idea of hood pins.......

center the pin in the latch and lube and it should work great.

maybe you might want to make the spring a little lighter and I like the idea of a ram to hold the hood.
