Mountains and Roadster.
I was able to take a Cascade Mts route on the way to the Shasta Meet.
Around Mt Rainier. Along the E side of Mt St. Helens. Mt. Adams. Mt Bachelor and the Sisters behind Bend OR and Crater Lake.
It is days like these that make it worth living in the wet Northwest.

Great Pics Ted! I thought Shasta was next week so obviously I missed it. But you drove some of my favorite roads... the back side of St Helens is AWESOME; The run to Crater Lake out of Roseburg... I got to do the drive along the river canyon at warp speed last time; and of course Mt Shasta. Thanks for sharing!!!

Left Costa Mesa on Thursday morning, headed north.. By the time I hit Victorville it was HOT.. I drove it slow until I hit Bishop, then stopped to let the driver and car cool down..

Left Bishop around 6, and it was finally less hot and pleasant..
Stopped to take a picture, this was the last time my grill was straight...
Image

Shortly after a bird decided he was done with us and flew into my car..

Then blasting past Mono lake.. Sun getting lower..
Image

Crossed into Nevada at sunset, took one last photo at Topaz Lake on the Nevada shore..
Image

Drove thru Carson City, Reno, and then back into California to spend the night in Susanville, CA..

Next morning, headed west to Shasta, across the mountain highways. Pulled in in time to meet some people, get a room in Mt. Shasta City, then do the poker run.. BEAUTIFUL road..

Headed up the hill..
Image

Road becomes single track..
Image

Tried to get a shot of how steep it was, but this does not do it justice..
Image

The layers of ridges in the distance were amazing.. Too bad the phone camera could not pick them all out..
Image

Top of the run..
Image

Beautiful descent.. The scenery was stunning.. I may have been the slowest on the run, but I don't care..
Image

Back down in the forest..
Image

Pulled in for the coast..
Image

Went to dinner with a bunch of new friends.. We took over the patio.. Then to the ice cream and wine social in the parking lot of the Swiss Holiday.. If there were any non roadster people, I would love to know what they were thinking..

Next day pulled in to the show-n-shine.. Nice turn out..
Image

That's me in the back corner.. Perfect since mine is not a show car.. Plus it was sporting a newly dented grill..
Image

After the show, I headed south.. At Williams, CA, I decided to head west to see if it was cooler closer to the coast.. Highway 20 to 53 to 29 into Calistoga and it was getting better, ran across petrified forest road into Santa Rosa..

This set of roads was amazing.. Lots of green tunnels where the trees completely cover the road, great up hills and down hills, beautiful views..

Stopped for dinner in Petaluma, then headed south..

I really wanted to get a photo of the Golden Gate at sunset, but I was too late, and it was raining as I crossed..

Drove thru San Francisco at night, got a lot of stares as I pulled past restaurants and nightclubs with the top down in the drizzly fog..

Spent the night in Morgan Hill..

Sunday, left Morgan Hill, drove thru Gilroy to Watsonville, headed south along 1.. It was foggy, sunny, hot, cold, open roads and traffic, in short, typical 1..

Stopped for a picture in Morro Bay..
Image

Stopped for lunch at the Big Bopper Burger in Solvang,

Someone let a dog loose on the 101 in Carpenteria, so it took 2 hours to get thru Santa Barbara..

Finally got home around 9pm Sunday night, great weekend!

2012 Mt Shasta Datsun Roadster Meet Review and Photo Album.

The meet this year was EXCELLENT.
The Swiss Holiday Lodge Motel was a friendly and accommodating (roadster washing facilities provided!) headquarters.
The only problem being a fresh coating of parking lot asphalt/tar sealant that was melting in the heat
and sticking to our shoes and getting on our carpets!
If you are watching your Pennies, the town is surrounded by a National Forest and you can camp for free.
A paved road leads up to about 8000' on Mt. Shasta and lots of people were camped everywhere.
I found a nice spot at about 6300' and it was cool in the evening. Just left the tent up and came back each evening.
I arrived early enough for all the activities.
Keith made his fabulous ice cream for the Thursday evening Meet & Greet.
When I complained that the Friday am drive was cancelled I was assigned the job of organizing it!.
Not too practical to have the guy from Seattle finding good local roads but a logging equipment repair guy was
interested in our roadsters and he loaned me a current Forest Service map.
I found a 70 mile loop to the east on paved roads and 4 roadsters had a good drive.
We went 30 miles before seeing another vehicle.
The afternoon Poker run was fun. Dave Premo found some great windy, hilly, bumpy, 1 lane, paved forest roads to the west.
My full house lost to 4 if a kind!
The "Paul's Coast" event in the afternoon was a challenge.
Keith made more ice cream for the Friday night social gathering!
The Saturday show was fine!. 31 cars on display and 2 more on the sidelines.
The Beautiful white 64 1500 was "Best Of Show".
Keith conducted his Carb adjusting class in the afternoon and 2 roadsters got tuned and a bunch of owners got educated!
The Awards dinner was fine. In the community center building on the N edge of town this year.
Great food and a fine selection of donated raffle prizes!
We all thanked Phyllis for running the show for the last 17 years.
She decided to retire from the job, so Dave Premo and others stepped up to run the show in the future.
With more publicity this great Roadster show will be back to it glory days of 60-70 roadsters!.
So all of you who did not come this year need to show up in 2013!. July 12 and 13.
2014 will be the 30th show. I bet we can reach the 100 roadster goal!!.
