July 8 San Francisco Region autocross anyone?
Aloha,
I'm taking out the 2000 for her first autocross in the SFR region at Golden Gate Fields. More of just a shakedown than anything. Good safe place to check the limits and try to knock a few parts loose.
Anyone in the SF Bay Area interested in running? I'll be on 185/70's so it'll be a squishy ride!
Currently hoping to run the AM session for now.

cheers,

Tempting but a really long drive.
"Typical course map" is pretty neat. Lots of good technical tricks in there:

Update:
Never made it to the autocross to toss the car around. I was going to run the first run group as I had to be back by 1pm. Late last night I was prepping the car for tech and after I popped the hub caps I found that the PO had brand new lug nuts installed but the taper was incorrect. The nuts could not cover the studs fully and I knew that the grid tech guys wouldn't have passed it if they saw it. I didn't want to do my work assignment only to be turned away. Looks like I'll have to shoot for the Sacramento chapter event in 3 weeks.
thanks for the well wishes, hopefully i can report back at the next event.
I hear stock replacement nuts can be found at Pep Boys and the like?

Yes you should be able to find short acorn style lug nuts at Pep Boys or one of those places.
Mark your calender for August 5th at Marina. I should be down there with my car running with the NORCAL UFO guys. It would be fantastic to have two roadsters running.

Or three. Depends on a few things but would be fun to go to another autocross. Working on suspension and exhaust soon so if that gets done I'll work things out.

Thanks for the heads up Will. I have a commitment the afternoon of the 5th, but if i run in the am group, i might be able to pull it off. we'll see how it shapes up and i'll let you know if i can make it.
in the meantime, i still am hoping to try to make the Sacramento scca event in Stockton on the 7/27 weekend. A bit closer for you Alex if you decide to do this one?

Looks like we'll be running in the 4th run group right before lunch on the 5th. http://www.norcalufo.org/main/attachmen ... r_ufo7.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Leo and Alex, I'd say both of you should run VS (Vintage stock) since you are both running stock cars. I'll be in VSP running at the same time, but competing with modified cars. There should be a good collection of 510s, 240Zs and Alfa GTV or two, and perhaps an E30 BMW or two mixed in. VS is pretty tame, VSP will likely have the top 5 people within a second of each other. If anyone wants to caravan down, I can meet up somewhere along the way. The drivers meeting is at 0830, I try to get down there by 0800 so I can walk the course and start getting setup. You guys will have to do the drivers meeting.
August 26th will be the next event there, http://www.norcalufo.org/main/attachmen ... r_ufo8.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Again, we will be running in the morning.
There will also be an autoX test and tune/school September 8th at Infineon. I'll be instructing at that as well. As Alex knows, its more driving than you can believe, and any and all issues with your car will come to light.

Re: July 8 San Francisco Region autocross anyone?
That would be awesome. A bit of a long trip for 4 runs but still awesome. They are on a Sunday. It would be epic to have a herd of roadsters out on course. With as many roadsters as there are in the Bay area, I'm the only one who makes it out to run with the UFO guys (The only true Datsun group left up here that hosts autocross events.)Garm wrote:^ Great info. That said, NORCAL UFO needs some new people to get involved. The original core group is getting pretty small. Dennis and Peggy Hale do a lot to keep it going, but unless there are new people coming in who want to do things like autoX and track days, this will go away as well. It was NORCAL UFO that hosted the Shasta All Datsun meet back in the day. There was the roadster Shasta meet that happened along side, but was separate. It was an epic weekend to hit up Thunderhill for a track day on Friday, then continue up to Shasta Friday night for two days of autoX and car show at the Shasta Ski hill. The show ended in '06 when there just wasn't enough people who wanted to come out and play. Ok, getting off topic here.

Thanks for the info/schedule, Will. You're really tempting me to try harder to make it work! That test and tune at Infineon sounds great too that I surely plan to make. Do they have stations or run complete timed courses at that?

Sept 8 would be a awesome time. Way more runs, might the on that's more "worth it" to me. I'd be able to finish all the things for the car before then easily too.

You should try and make it out. Its a good group to run with. We usually have our stuff together and keep things moving pretty smoothly. Like I said, classic Datsuns are always encouraged. Sometimes there is time for fun runs, but usually we have full groups and have had as many as 200 people running.seabiscuit wrote:Thanks for the info/schedule, Will. As for the autoX test day, in the past we have run stations in the morning and put a full course in the afternoon. There has been talk of a faster than normal course this time so I'm kinda curious what we'll be doing. (Perhaps we finally got the go cart track at the top of the hill? How awesome would that be?) I honestly don't know the format we will be running this time around however. I'll find out the Friday before when we set everything up. I think its going to be $70 but I'm not sure. You will be tired of driving by the end. (The only complaint we have ever had is that its too much driving.)
