3M Cleaner Wax

has anyone used 3M Cleaner wax "medium oxidation remover" part # 39066?

I also frequent a classic bronco forum and a guy used this on a orange 74 Bronco and took it from a faded creamsicle to a shinning orange color with out using an orbital or wet sanding it really was amazing.

I use 3M products when doing my cutting and buffing on new paint and have been quite happy with the results. I would imagine that most cleaner/wax combos have some cutting ability in them in order to remove the oxidation. However, anything that has a cutting ability has the potential to leave swirl marks, most noticeble in the sun and on dark colors. If you run into that after your cleaning and waxing process, consider picking up a product made by Eagle One... it's a micro wax or polish product that was AMAZING in its ability to remove swirl... much better than the swirl remover I had always used. I am at work so I don't have the actual name of the product in front of me, but the box talks about how it fills in scratches and removes swirls, and for once a product outperformed my expectations. I think I even posted that to the list, so you might do a search for my posts if you want the name immediately. Great product, and not expensive.

To improve your paint you might also look into claying the car. I have not done that myself but hear of good results. All of this will take effort, however you can truly improve good quality paint that has been ignored for awhile using these products and spending some time. After the initial work, you just have to do a twice a year maintenance and you should be good.

I've been a big fan of the Meguiar's ultimate compound ever since I first tried it, even just applying it by hand in a circular motion produces fairly good results...but clay bar is definitively the best first step to getting your paint in better shape, it removes the particles and contamination from the clear coat...I'm sure I'm probably telling an expert something he already knew, but I love clay bar

I've also had good results with Meguiar's Ultimate Compound. I now use a wax from a guy in TN, but used Meguiar's for a LONG time. I still have 3M Cleaner wax in my bucket (read buckets) of stuff. The nice thing about both of these is that they really aren't abrasive in an abusive way at all. It does work imo.

Don't stress Roman. They have wooden shift knobs and they are waxing those. Yeah, that has to be it...
