My new roadster... new to me

So, I just picked up a 1967.5 1600 from mike young of http://www.datsunsports.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and was really impressed with both him and the car. In the last couple days he replaced the radiator, thermostat, clutch master slave,alternator, and a complete head job because he was worried they could potentially be problems. I just took the car for its first spin and I'm impressed! I can tell it's a car that I'm going to need to learn how to drive and I look forward to that process. But, priority #1 are seat belts. I'm a new father and I'm hoping to avoid being ejected into on-coming traffic. Any suggestions? But, she's a beauty in my eyes. I look forward to meeting some of you local roadster owners to bathe in your wisdom (and buy you some beers). Is the only way to go with a shoulder belt to go with aftermarket seats?

Safety is a non-issue in these cars. lol i'd rather be ejected than death speared just kidding
Imho I wouldn't rely on seatbelts to keep you "safe". Just assume people can't see you.

there's a few threads on getting:
-period looking replacement belts
-stock belts re-webbed
-lap belts vs shoulder harnesses in OEM locations
-3, 4 and 5-point aftermarket harnesses
-mounting typical, modern 3-points with an intertia reel

for mounting shoulder harnesses correctly you'll need a rollbar/harness bar

Your car being a 67.5 originally came with a shoulder belt. Any 3 point seat belt can be made to work.

The 67.5 was the start. On the tire bulge beside the rear shelf, there is a bolt hole for the shoulder harness. Take a look at yours - I am sure Alvin can post pics!

Well, it only does ONE shoulder belt per side. No harness unless you add stuff.

I put Wesco retractable seat belts in my 69. The original 3 point belts would not move so, in order to even reach into the glovebox, I had to unbuckle. They also had to be adjusted for every passenger that rode in the car. I also wanted new material. You can get the original belts redone but I'm very happy with the Wesco belts.

The Wesco belts are less than $100 and come in different colors. They have a style made for roadsters too.

I went with these in my 1967.5 and bolted right in using the point on the wheel hump. It is a pain to adjust for each different passenger.

I have 5points in my car, but honestly not properly attached (using the stock location in the back, too low). I just like the feeling of being locked down in corners. They are cam locks, black and wide... too wide in some cases, like for my girl. A friend found a very similar set but with 2 inch shoulder straps at Pepboys that I may go get for her, or just have her use the lap belt only since she has no steering wheel to contend with.
But really, Alvin is correct: Drive like nobody can see you! I have the early death spear in my car!

Awesome. I just ordered the ones RobertAuclair recommended. Since I'll be probably the only one driving I don't mind if it's a little bit of a pain to adjust. I rode a motorcycle for 20 years, so I understand the importance of driving like nobody sees you. I'll be putting that philosophy into strict practice!!

Well, if you rode bikes that long, the roadster should be a cinch. But the car's are tiny! I too have a 3 point harness. Don't know if I'd slip out of it in an accident but I figure the more straps, the less chance of that happening.

Always wanted a bike but like the fact that with the top down on my roadster, I can imagine it's almost the same as being on a bike. I can check out the scenery on the side of the road without worrying about laying it down...

Welcome Duncan...did you get the Black one with the fancy cloth seats?

If so, my car was up there around the same time and I saw it when Mike first received it and then again probably a day or two before you bought it. He did some nice work on that car.
