OK, folks... I don't want to make this too complex or muddy the waters. But what if we tried for Sunday April 1 Instead? Weather.com shows Saturday as 60% chance of rain, wind at 23 MPH. Sunday says 0% rain and 14 MPH winds. I don't mind driving the car in the rain, but driving up Mt. Diablo with reduced visibility and some corners with no guard rails above 1000-foot drop-offs sounds less relaxing. So, just asking now...who would be able to do the same trip, but start at 11:00 am Sunday April 1, museum around noon, up the mountain and back down, finishing up around 3:30 pm or so? Copy and paste with your answer (yes, no, maybe) if you get a chance to...

I'm on the fence about what I'll do. My loaner 68 runs well enough to make it, but it has expired Hawaii plates, which might not go over so well. Getting pulled over in someone else's car and then having to explain that seems like a way I don't want to spend my day...

Check back here late Thursday or early Friday for final decision. Detailed forecast will be out. Saturday is starting to look as if it will only rain in the morning, so the original plan still looks good. Sunday looking less likely for me now since I have learned I need to be at the airport in the afternoon.

May have to work Saturday, and Sunday is a usually big all old school Japanese car meet in Modesto. Was hoping to hit both, but now........ :?

Hey, I'm down for this event either day.

A couple of things to note, the Blackhawk Museum admission is $10 and for Mt. Diablo:
ADMISSION FEES (Day Use Fees)
Main Entrances Fee - $10.00 per car / Seniors 62 and over - $9.00 per car
Mitchell Canyon and Macedo Ranch - $6.00 per car / Seniors 62 and over - $5.00 per car

Bonus for Sunday, the museum has a band playing at 2:00.
I don't know how long their set is though.

Corey, you can take off your Hawaii plate and and drive constitutionally. You have a right to travel for pleasure. The driver license is permission for travel for the purpose of commerce. If you know your rights, you can successfully argue that you are traveling for recreational purposes. There is further reading on this link:
http://www.welcome.freeenterprisesociet ... travel.htm
Read the court cases and refer to those if you get pulled over and questioned.
I have not done this myself, but would consider it if I were in your position.

A little rain should not deter you if your wipers are out. My windshield wipers stopped working on a road trip to Portland, Oregon. I put a good coating of Rain-X on the windshield and drove to San Francisco in the rain.

Oh, it's someone else's car. :|
You can get a temporary operating permit from the DMV.
