Parts of course

Post by Phred58 »

First off, thank you Steve for accepting my suggestion for this forum topic. The suggestion is somewhat selfish of me in that I'm in the process of becoming a Datsun parts vendor. Yes, one can ask the question why I'm doing that but I've moved beyond that question at this point. Website is being worked on but that process has brought a whole new appreciation to Dean, Dann, Steve and others that have one up and running and keep it running! My mind seriously does not work in that way.

I'm posting this to be open about my intentions; parts that you help me identify will go up for sale. I go around the country and buy up old Datsun part inventories; inevitably, there are parts that I can't identify because there isn't a part number attached and / or I can't visually identify the part. I could throw the part away but that "goes against my grain" so oftentimes the part just sits unused.

My hope with this forum topic is that I and others can get parts sitting on a shelf somewhere into the hands of people that want, need and can use them. Will I make money on the part? Hopefully, as that allows me to buy more parts to get into circulation. I'm sure some of the parts I ask about won't be roadster parts but I know a lot of roadster owners have other Datsun vehicles in their stables.

Though I didn't mention this to Steve when I suggested this forum topic, I intend to step up and provide funding above and beyond what I currently do now for 311s.org. I've always had the opinion that making a profit isn't bad; my goal for my business (and my wife strongly encourages me in this way) is to make a profit. As a way to "give back" to those who help me achieve that, I commit to donate a portion of the profit earned on parts identified here back to 311s.org. My hope is it will perhaps provide 311s.org some additional funding to make this website even better and more useful than it already is.

Hope I haven't stepped on anyone's toes with this spiel; it's never my intent. These comments are my own and there is no intent to force or coerce anyone else to follow along with what I am trying to accomplish. So with that said, let the fun begin.

Thanks, Paul

Bring it on! For many years I ran the parts identification contest at the All Datsun Meet at Mt. Shasta. I love this stuff...

We should bring that back!!!!

I even placed one year. Lost by a window rubber stop IIRC... Never had a Roadster window mechanism apart...Just pull the whole thing out and welded up the hole.

Why don't you and Michael come up with a part for the Solvang crowd to ID. Just a little entertainment for the BbQ.

Sadly-Linda has passed away 2022. She was the 311's den mother and drove the first Rare-Parts ball joint project. RIP.

Mike,

If you decide to the parts ID challenge at Solvang, I probably have some things that not too many people have seen that I can supply. But I think we'll have to tell Stan and Herb they can't play as I don't think there would be too much they haven't seen! :D

I have to look in the parts pile for the 64, lots of odd stuff. Maybe we can make Stan the judge, that sound nicer than disqualified :D

O, I didn't mean to "disqualify" Stan or Herb by my suggestion. If anything, they would be the most "qualified" but I doubt many would be able to outguess them!

But, I like the idea of a vendor category; and especially that they be the judge because.... that means I wouldn't have to compete against them.
