Solvang, Northern California caravan?

Post by DatsunNewbster »

Hey guys, I was wondering if any of the northern california people were planning on doing a Caravan down to Solvang this year and if so, which day are most of you guys planning on heading down? It's always a good idea to go in groups during a long drive as most of you should know. I'll probably be heading down friday night since I can only request Saturday off, but I'll be heading down in my honda(flame on!- lol) since I don't have my datsun yet =(.

There was discussion in another thread:

http://311s.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f= ... 10#p124477

I'd like to leave San Jose by 8am and get over to Santa Cruz and make a day of it driving down the coast on Hwy 1. I could leave later and drive w/ others or perhaps have you guys catch up to me. I'll likely be stopping a fair bit to take pics and enjoy the view.

I'd prefer to caravan as well in case something happens to one of us. Alvin and I had been talking of doing so, but now it looks like he's going on Saturday.

Certainly this will be a topic for discussion next weekend at Dave's event.

Plan to leave Friday morning and taking both roadsters. I have driving skills and fingers crossed! Buddy Mike from Pleasanton will be joining also. 8 am may be slightly aggressive. Wives in tow there will be a stop for lunch, a tasting in Paso? and Chinese fire drills along the way. Pull out of Paso by ~2, arrive Solvang before 4. The more the merry. That's what I see. Trip back may be a similar reverse on Monday. TBD.

OK, we are a week out.

Who is interested in a Roadster caravan taking the scenic route from the north via Hwy 1 on Friday? I can coordinate logistics / meeting spots. A suggested routing would be:

1. meet somewhere near Campbell / Los Gatos off of Hwy 17 on Friday morning: time tbd
2. if needed, meeting spot near Santa Cruz
3. if needed, meeting spot in Monterey / Carmel
4. meal / rest spot: River Inn, Big Sur: http://www.bigsurriverinn.com
5. if needed, meeting / meal / rest spots in Cambria, Morro Rock, Pismo...

If interested, respond to the thread and then we can exchange phone #s by PM.

For those of you coming down 101, I'm in Paso (hour and a half or so North of Solvang) and will be at the shop all day Thursday and Friday. If anybody wants a contact number in case of unforseen difficulties on the drive down. Just let me know. I have access to tools/jacks/etc. and a few connections at parts houses. Just in case.

Mike, I'm still planning on leaving Friday morning. My 1600 has a crappy downshift into second. I think Hwy 1 past Carmel/Big Sur would give it quite a workout. Leaning towards the straight 101 route. But could be convinced to shoot down 46W and take Hwy 1 from Cambria? I'm taking both roadsters and a buddy Mike from Pleasanton should be along as well in his 69 SRL and possibly a chase car; 4 or 5 of us total. Lunch in Cambria?

Francis and I are leaving our houses at 8:00am (Pleasanton and Hayward) and meeting at the Coyote creek golf rd off 101. I'm guessing we'll be there about 9:00am depending on traffic. We are driving down 101 from there, we are not driving 1 on this trip. If you're interested in joining us let me know so we can wait for you and I we can exchange cell numbers

Just an FYI. If you plan on taking Hwy 1 at all, take it on the way in NOT the way home. Big Sur Marathon is Sunday, we got caught behind that in 2010.

We are planing to take 1 down as well. My family will be staying in a cabin near Capitola Thursday night and departing sometime Friday morning. Hopefully around 9 or 10. We'll probably get coffee in Capitola and then head south. Jon and I will be heading down 1, while Jesse and my dad trailer down 101. I'd like to say we'll be at a certain spot at a certain time, but I really don't know what time we'll get out the door with kids and wives and what not. So, hopefully we'll see you on the road!

Also, we will have a good assortment of tools and parts (carb(s), dizzy, fuel pump(s), rad hoses, fan belts, etc) with us, so if anyone has trouble along the way, we will be happy to help. IIRC I don't think my phone works to well out on the 1, but here is my number in case anyone wants to try and reach us on the road... 530-263-5684

I will be leaving the Vallejo area around 9:30 on Thursday and heading down Hwy1. We plan on stopping at Half Moon Bay brewery around 11:30 and then on down hwy 1 cutting across to 101 either at Cambria or San Luis and on to Solvang.

I have sent out some PMs with my contact info.

I'd like to try to connect with Jared's crew somwhere south of Capitola

Kurt and Ken - If you guys connect on the road, perhaps we could cross paths in / near Cambria or SLO.

Jay - I'll likely be ahead of you, but if plans change we may connect on the road.
