Aluminum Flywheel

Can anyone tell me about the aluminum flywheel shown in the picture? It came off a U20 but has a larger pressure plate and clutch than the standard U20. I have placed a standard pressure plate and disc next to it for comparison.

what is the weight difference between the stocker and this? how much more does the pressure plate weigh? from the picts i cant see much advantage aside from a larger disc surface.

My guess is that its a Z clutch. Odds are its got less clamping force than the stock 2L clutch. Unless its a 300Z Turbo clutch, this will be the case. The stock 2L roadster clutch has the highest clamping force up to the Z32 300Z TT clutch.

The holes might still be in the flywheel to use the stock roadster clutch, but its hard to say. I'd stick a stock roadster pressure plate on there and see if anything lines up.

Its hard to say. It doesn't look like its got a replaceable friction surface so you could be right.

It looks very similar to the Z clutch and flywheel I swapped for stock when I rebuilt my U20. I seem to recall Ross stating there was no advantage to a Z clutch on a U20.

This one has a metal insert just like the other 2L aluminum flywheels that I have seen.

No other holes on the wheel. Only 6 bolts, and no alignment pin.

The back of the wheel has WEBER on it.

I will get a weight on it. It is fairly light.

Get a kevlar disk. My old one is about six years old with HEAVY abuse and I replaced it because "I was there".

Where does one get one of those? Since my car is apart to fix the transmission, I was thinking I should replace the disk as well.

They used to have a listing for the 311 but I can't find it now. I had to tell them the size and spline number even though there was a link on their website. It is almost indestructible! I slipped and beat on it or six years and when I pulled it most of the surface was still there.

If they no longer have them in stock, they need to get/make more as I am sure there will be a demand. I, for one, am interested but need to finish the stroker machining first.

I have owned a few aluminum flywheels and all of them used the same pressure plate and clutch as the steel flywheels.

This one is definitely different and I have never seen one like it and wanted to learn more.

This one was on #33. I have documentation that the motor was built in 1971 to race. I had never seen this wheel in any catalog and thought se of you guys could tell me about it. It has WEBER cast in the backside and 2000 stamped near the bolt holes. I figure I will put it back in the car, but was trying to locate a new disk. Although this one is clearly useable.
