New guy in OC

Hi all! Just bought a 68 or 69 depending on who you talk to 1600..

Love the car!

I'm on my way home with it, driving down the 101..

Well, I made it to San Francisco...

The carb linkage decided to act up.. Actually, it decided to disappear. So I have the linkage to the rear carb, and the throttle cable attached, and the bar that connects the two rods.. But the rod to the front carb has left the car.. Lmao..

So I have made a pull rod out of zip ties.. It seems to be working, but this is a little wild..

Hopefully it will make it home.. I have no idea where to look for turnbuckles like that in San Francisco..

Off to get some dinner..

And I do not text and drive.. I have no intention of tossing this car into a redwood on the way home..lol

Nice looking "68" RC. (single backup light). Do the gauges have a chrome ring in the center? The chrome ring reflects the instrument lighting and looks really cool at night, like a glow. have fun!!

The guy I bought it from was clear it's a 68... But the state of Oregon says its a 69... Apparently maybe a sale date? I don't know.. But it's titled as a 69... I wonder if I can convince California its a 68?

Yep, sale date. No real reason to try and change it, isn't going to change the value.

I had to laugh because the same thing happened to my dogbone within the first 2 days of me owning my Roadster.

Great looking car. It pays to have McGyver skills when owning a roadster. If I know you were in the area I could have given you a "loaner" linkage.

Hello Mike,

My 68 2000 was too registered as a 69 so I went to DMV with photos and other Datsun catalog photos supporting that fact. Had to debate them a bit but got them to change it as I thought there were fewer 68 2000's than 69 2000's so I thought it might affect the value. Not sure whether it really does or not but more just wanted to have it accurate.

On yours, biggest thing is no marker lights (doubtful that somebody changed all 4 body panels), 68 style bumper with single license light rather than dual body mounted lights, single reverse light, and gauge style would be clues also (both style of gauge and numbers along with the chrome ring that was mentioned earlier as they differ between 68 and 69).

Had my roadster up at Humboldt State many,many years ago. 101 was a great place to drive it; 4 lanes and very little traffic. I remember one trip where I didn't see another car either direction for 45 minutes! Did get my last speeding ticket up there too though.....

Don't know how I missed this..

So I went in to the DMV to register the car, and after talking to the guy outside and then waiting in the chairs for 3 hours, their computers went down state wide..

Go back the next day, and finally get to talk to someone, and as she was typing everything in, I casually mentioned that it would be nice if she made it a '68 as that would be correct.. She gives me a funny look, then goes back to typing, and after a few minutes asks for the money.. I pay the sales tax and registration and then she tells me I need to go to the CHP in Westminster to get the year "clarified"... I say "well, if Oregon says its a '69, I guess it's a '69.. She tells me that it cannot be registered in California until its year is determined..

So I go to Westminster and start talking to the CHP.. After she makes the appointment to come back, she says "oh, you're from Costa Mesa.. You need to go to Santa Ana.. We can't help you here.."

So I go to Santa Ana and after a week and a half of back and forth, the guy asks me why I think it's a '68.. I tell him, and he says "sounds good.. I'll go write it up.."

Another day in the DMV to finish it up, but as of Wednesday, it's a '68 and it has California plates..

Moral of the story, never ask a question in the DMV.. It only makes things worse..
