Re-chroming
I am going to need to re-chrome my front/rear bumpers plus a few other misc parts. Any recommendations on where to send the parts?

Re: Re-chroming
There are several places in PA with very high marks, Pauls for one. But there is "proof" of the awesome work a Tennessee plater does in a member thread here, but I can't remember the name? Wait, I think it's Advanced Plating.
I'll find the thread.
And one to avoid.....

This is not the thread I was looking for, there is another with great pics. But it was Advanced that did the work.

Re: Re-chroming
Along the same lines, what have people paid for rechroming something like a front or rear bumper? Headlight trims?
Going with the Drone group to a place in early March and trying to get an idea of typical prices before going there.
Thanks
Mark

Re: Re-chroming
I've seen numbers from other members, for bumpers, in the $200 - $300 range (each).
The only plating shop (I am aware of) in Madison, WI quoted me $600 to $700 to do a 1600 grille about five years ago.
Anyone else have any number quotes for a 1600 grille?
I didn't look at the link previously listed in this thread, but if it isn't a negative for "bumper boys", then let me say, don't go with them as I have read nothing but horror stories about them.

Re: Re-chroming
I did my chroming in batches of parts so it is hard to figure out what i paid per piece. The bumpers were done last and I paid $300 each to have them done.

Re: Re-chroming
I dropped my parts off at Nu-Chrome in Fall River, Ma on Saturday. Also got a tour with other members of the Drone group. The owner was amazingly patient and proud to show us around his shop. Does great work. And after the tour, it is clear why re-chroming cost so much....
Drop off/pickup on the bumpers were $250 each. Front headlight $125. We might have got a discount because there were three of us. If mine comes out like the rest of the items I saw, definitely gets "two thumbs up".

Re: Re-chroming
I pay about $240 to have a bumper straightened and plated with nickel and chrome. It is quite a bit more expensive (maybe $400) to have parts "triple chrome plated" or "show chromed". This involves putting a layer of copper on the part first and then putting nickel and then chrome. The copper gives an even smoother surface (the smoother it is the better it will reflect light)than the nickel although the nickel is what provides the "shine". You have to be careful because some platers will put two layers of nickel on (which is probably necessary) and then chrome and call it "triple plated".
The only parts that my plater told me that had to be triple chromed were the teardrops on the back deck to hold the convertible top because they are "pot metal".
I use Metro Plating in Mesa Arizona. I've been to their shop and now trust them enough to send them parts for chrome plating.
I'm sure there are different opinions out there but this is what little I've learned.

Re: Re-chroming
Go to some hot rod shows and ask where they get their chrome work done. Around here it is Verne's in Gardena, CA (near Los Angeles) Very nice work and excellent reviews.

Re: Re-chroming
Nu-Chrome is quoting 6-8 weeks. Only forward to seeing the Chrome returned! And the price was for standard chroming, not the "show chromed" that Linda mentioned. I suspect that it would be much more...
