garm: I am going to go out on a limb and guess that your rubber donut behind the gas cap is original too... got 'em in stock if you need one...

I have had three 65 1500s that came with the cap in the middle, in Richard's pictures. I know they are correct for that year as they both had matching keys and looked like they had never been changed.
The one on the right came on my 69 and it was original too.
So if someone will post pictures of the stock 70 cap, I think all styles will be covered.

I'd be interested to know if the vent fitting on your gas tank filler neck is the 80 degree angle type or the more parallel type I described above. If it is the 90 degree type (vent line goes over to the charcoal cannister perhaps instead of back to the tank??) and still fits the locking cap, then that is one more variation with the roadsters.

If I had to guess, I'd say someone changed out the filler neck and put an earlier style neck on your 1970.
looks like it vents back to the tank.here's some pics

Mike,

That -09501 cap is beeautiful; don't think I've ever seen one new in the box like that.

Keith,

Well, it looks like I guessed right then. PO probably wanted a locking gas cap and that's the easiest way to do it. Does the key number match the number stamped on the gas cap? To get all the locks keyed alike means they probably rekeyed the gas cap to match the door locks or vise versa.

Someone has posted a 70 gas cap on Ebay. I know that the 70 is supposed to be non-vented, but does this look like the right gas cap for a 70? For some reason I thought the 70 was different than the others. More than just an unnotched rubber seal.

I just saw a locking gas cap on ebay that is suppose to be for a 620 truck. looks very much like 311 cap, but not perfect. New in the box for 22.00 and change. Could we be that lucky? Any one have info on that cap?

I saw that too. I requested dimensions from the seller. I haven't compared his response to my cap yet.

Steve,

The OEM 1970 gas cap is non-locking; the ebay listing is incorrect.

Just checked my cap against dimensions in picture. off a bit. would like to know distance from tabs on cap to sealing gasket. Anyone have access to a 620 to try their cap on?

That is what I thought Paul. I am surprised that no one on this site has one that they can take a picture of. I would like to see what the original looks like. Most people must have replaced them with the locking type because of the looks or they thought they had the wrong type because everybody else had the locking style.

This is obviously an old post, but I've been trying to cobble together a good cap out of a couple that I've picked up, and have been scouring this forum for lock and key and cap info.

In this thread there is a question and some discrepancy about what cap came on the 67.5, and there's a question about if anyone has all 6 locks.

So, I am the 2nd owner of a 67.5 1600 and I have one original key that works in all 6 locks, and the gas cap is a short cap.

Don't know if anyone cares after 8 years, but that could be a good clue.
