70 R16 Water Pump

Post by S Allen »

Scott,

I read the post in the engine swap thread about not being able to get the water pump for your 70 1600. Sorry to hear that. All the more reason to locate a couple of spares that you can have rebuilt. Sure beats paying $125.00 plus for one.

Thanks for the thoughts Steve. I found a place in WI that is called Custom Water Pumps that was formerly San Diego Water Pumps that will charge me #95 to rebuild mine. Once he has it turnaround in about 2 days.

You mentioned that you had had yours rebuilt for something less that this figure? If so, please let me know who and I will gladly send mine to them for the work.

Most definitely. The cut-off I believe is the 67.5. They are not inter-changeable without making significant changes i.e. pump pulley and crank pulley.

STOP!!!!

Don't spend $95 for the rebuild!!! Find a Car Quest and see if they can rebuild for you - it should be about $35. Also check with Napa...

RE:Rebuild

Scott,

That is a bit much for a rebuild. I spent $45.00. Cardone can rebuild them still but you usually have to go through an auto parts store. Like Sid said-NAPA is a good choice. I use a local foreign auto parts store. Good luck.

Just to give you another option, you can have your pulley flange taken off your bad water pump and pressed on a new one. Your local forklift parts department sells an H20 waterpump that has the wrong pulley. Pay a few dollars extra to have it swapped and you should be out the door for around $60-$70 total.
