The Front Sway Bar Thread
I can't find this in one place, but if it is, just delete this and point me in the right direction.
Stock is 18mm I believe.
I've heard of 21mm and 23mm replacements. The 21mm one I found on eBay.
1. Are there other choices?
2. Do urethane bushings make a difference over stock rubber bushings?
3. Do NEW bushings make a difference over old worn ones (besides the obvious safety reasons)?
4. Do people add Zerk fittings in this location? I didn't see any on my car.
Looking forward to more information.

Yes it does, however you need to cut the original sway bar support brackets off in order to mount it. You will also need to modify the A-arms to mount the end links. I've thought long and hard about running one of these, but I just can't bring myself to cut the original mounts off the car.Garm wrote:^ That looks pretty tunable.
I have a stock 19mm, a 12mm with delrin bushings, and the 23mm with poly bushings. I've run all of them. Some cars like the 19, another car with the same suspension setup might want the 21 or 23. Its hard to say. They all like different things. You almost have to try each and see which one the car likes more.

It appears that nobody has really answered Garm's questions about bushings, so I'll take a stab at it, at least the way I see it.
At one extreme you have a swaybar that pivots in (theoretical) solid steel bushings. At the other end of the spectrum is a bar that has no middle mounts at all. The sooner the play in the pivot bushing is taken up, the sooner the bar can do its job. No mounts would mean that the bar would never get to transfer any energy from one of the bar to the other end, whereas the solid bushings would allow (almost) all rotational energy to go to the other end of the bar. A smaller bar that is properly secured will out-perform a heavier bar that is not.
In sum, the stiffer the bushings, the more fully (and quicker) the bar can do its job. Conversely, the stiffer the bushing, the more vibration that will be transmitted from the bar to the frame. The ideal solution will depend on what the driver wants/needs, and will be somewhere in the middle between the two extremes.

Are the bushing sizes that critical for what you are descrbing? Does a 17.5mm bar need a 17.5 bushing or can it use a 17 or 18 or 19? And urethane seems to be preferred to get the most out of the bar

Bucky that helps. I'm going to start by uprading the bushings on my stock bar. That might be the difference I need without going to a bigger bar.
Especially since every bushing on the car needs replacing.
Linda, the bushings will match the bar; they have cutouts for the size of the bar they are supposed to mount.
