Nice job Jeremy. I had to look hard to see the router work. What tires did you use? How is your balance?

Are you going to Sandia Motorsports this weekend?

Thanks, Shannon. I think the balance is good, though I've only been through the neighborhood so far. The tires are Falcon Ziex that I previously had on my Volvo, so I feel lucky that they worked. I would have had to wait to afford a new set of tires. No track this weekend, but hopefully a Sunday morning drive on the Sandia Crest road. Join me!

As far as close pics of the fender clearances, I can try to post some, but my car is lowered, doesn't sit equally on the frame, and the rear arches are slightly modified (ie, fiberglass and bondo rust repair :oops: ), so I don't know how accurate the photo reference would be for another car. One thing's for sure, if you're running stock front ride height on a roadster, you could fit 10 inch wheels without rubbing on the outside, haha.

Sounds like a plan. I'll see if Buddy will join us in my old 1600.

Thanks! I'd take credit for genius (rare occurrence), but some other genius already did it, I just decided to try it too. Worked like a charm!

Hey guys. I have my set of 4 shiny new XXR 513s in the garage and a nice router borrowed from my father in law. I went to the store to get a router bit and ran into a bit of an issue. All the bits I can find are for wood. Would a wood bit from say Sears or Menards work on these wheels, or would shred the bit. They aren't cheap, so I don't want to buy one and ruin the bit or the wheels. If I do need to use a metal specific bit, where would I find such a thing? They had 1/2" and 3/8" radius rounding bits. You think either one of these should do the trick?

I just used a normal wood router bit, it shaves the metal with no problem. Hate to sound like a mother, but wear some eyewear, those metal shavings will fly.

I have used both cheap (harden steel $10 to carbide $35 bits) wood bits,
Its no problem.

Thank you both for your responses. I definitely plan to wear safety glasses. Yikes, that would hurt!! I will go pick up a bit tomorrow.

I think I'd shy away from the carbide. Aside from being more expensive, it is more brittle and more prone to shatter.
Mommy says a face shield would be good too.

Found these generic caps on ebay that fit my XXR 513s with a little bit cutting and sanding. These are cheap plastic ones, panasport style.

http://r.ebay.com/lDwdlN" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The backs tabs had to be cut and sanded a little to get them to fit between the wheel hole and the front hub. I ended putting a little glue on the tabs to make sure the stay put. You do have to remove the dust cap to get these to fit.

The center caps fit the rear wheels with no issue, just pop them in.

Just thought I would pass on for anybody else with XXR 513s that was tired of running with no center caps in the front.

Major improvement, however I strongly recommend against running the fronts without the dust caps. You will soon have grease oozing out from behind the cap, and your bearing will run dry in time. If they get dry, and you are running at speed, eventually you will get a spectacular light show, and the bearing will weld itself to the spindle. Guess how I know this?

Thanks notoptoy, didn't realize the dust caps were that important. Oh well back to running with no center caps.
