R-16 Camshaft
It appears that my camshaft (and my spare!) are in need of some serious help. Dose anyone have any experience using the H20 cam? What are the specs (lift and duration)? Thanks!

According to the nissan service manual for H16(R) and H20 engines, the timing specs are:
H20 (vehicle models T444, T655, C240, 41):
BTDC 16, ABDC 52, BBDC 54, ATDC 14
H20 (vehicle model 130):
BTDC 16, ABDC 52, BBDC 54, ATDC 20
R16(R) (vehicle model T446):
BTDC 16, ABDC 52, BBDC 54, ATDC 14
I couldn't find any mention of lift.
According to the SP(L)311 roadster service manual, the timing for the R16 is:
BTDC 20, ABDC 56, BBDC 58, ATDC 18, LIFT 0.335in
Hope this helps.

I would guess the H20 cam might be a real stump puller at low rpm, being designed for a forklift, but doesn't the original H20 head have really small valves? Rollers are nice, extremly fast valve open and close rates, so better cylinder filling without a lumpy idle from too much duration.

I know the feeling, I put a 40 series Flowmaster (full race) and 3 inch turbo diesel exhaust on my 2WD Dodge Ramcharger, the former project vehicle until the Datsun. Sounds like a wild beast, scares the little weed wacker cars right off the road, sets off car alarms etc. I think midlife crisis may be starting.

The H20 was used in a lot more than forklifts. The US market only got them in the forklift - the other markets got them in cars, trucks, work vehicles, generating units, etc.

Yep. With Webers and extractors, my otherwise stock H20 was making 85hp at the wheels. It was a stump puller, with rediculous amounts of torque available from as low as 1000rpm (once while driving up a steep windy mountain road, I was worried I was going to run out of petrol, so to conserve fuel I kept it in 5th gear. With engine revs somtimes dropping as low as 1000rpm - It just kept climbing!!). Surprisingly though, it was happy to rev too - with max hp at 5200rpm.
With new cam/pistons/head work etc my H20 now makes 115hp at the wheels.
I think the engine originally came out of a Nissan Urvan (E20).

I think the most significant points are:
high lift cam with similar timing to U20 solex cam.
everything port matched from carbs, to inlet manifold, to head to extractors
head ported
44mm/35mm valves
There's a bit more detail here: http://www.311s.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2018.
