Brisbane Australia here. Long time sr owner, and racer

Post by dat2kman »

I own one of the most famous Datsun Roadsters that races here in Australia, it has race pedigree going back to May 14th 1968, where it won it's first ever race, by owner David Mingay. It has had a string of podium places, set plenty lap records, and fastes race lap times, since then.

It is what we in Australia call a Marque Sports Race Car, or i suppose a SCCA D prod, but with more mods, it runs 8 inch wide rims, tall treaded tyres, no screen, or glass ware, twin 50 Mikunis, all the usual Datsun Comp items.
I have owned it for 9 years, and race regularly all over Australia, including the world famous Mt Panorama Bathurst, Phillip Island, and many other tracks.

Attached, i hope, is a recent pic of me trying to conserve my race rubber, yes we sit on the wrong side of the car here, makes it easier to fit brake componenets, in the engine bay, bit hard fitting them jammed up against the carburettors!!

i got plenty more pics as well! nope. looks like i cant up load, file is too big, not sure how to shrink these things to make them fit!!

Welcome dat2kman :)
Try uploading your images to a Host site like Photobucket or the one I use, Shutterfly.
Then you can put a link in your post to the uploaded image.
Attachments to the forum are limited to 256Kb, which still works but you lose some detail of course.
I'm in sunny South Australia and drive on the LHS of the road too.
Better view from there!

I would like to see the photo too! If you want to resize it the easiest way is to right click on the photo (in windows) and email it to yourself. Click on "show more options" and select 800 x 600.

Man, you need to gain some weight!!! You must have some serious sway bars and stiff suspension. Are you running a rear sway bar?

Way cool picture.

Are you just landing from flying off the berm?

I would be interested in what modification have been added to your car.

Looks very fast!

Thanks for sharing.

Good thing you drive on the wrong side of the car or things could have gotten complicated...

I seem to make a habit of it. I weigh 105 kgs, dunno what that is in pounds, but yes im a bit portly

It runs a buitlt U20, all steel internals, twin 50 Mikunis, pretty much all the Competition Catalogue parts, suspension is all pretty stock, Koni oils, stiffer springs, slightly bigger front sway bar, no rear sway bar I use a variety of H190 LSD diffs and ratios depending on circuits,
.
engine is whacking out 243 hp at 7500 and 191 ft lbs at 5500 car fueled up without fat driver weighs 810 kgs ( pounds ?? )

I manage to hose off DeTomaso Panteras's, Porsche 2.7RS's, Datsun Z cars, Healey 3000's, and V8 engined Aussie Touring cars,
as you see it in these pics, and have plenty more, is how this car has been since year 1969, rules of historic racing here in Australia, dictate, basically, "as it was then, so it shall be now" car fully complies

That is seriously sweet. 105 kg is 230 lbs. Car is 1782 lbs. 230 horses has to be a riot to run. With that kind of power, I bet a lot of guys just look out the window and say "What the hell was that???"

I love Datsun Roadsters. Always keep em guessing.

Nice indeed! As a newbie here, and someone who may be moving to Brisbane, I'm excited to see I may be able to make some roadster friends down under! I am contemplating bringing my unfinished car with me to finish there. Are parts difficult? I need to stroke my 1600 and do the paint work and it will be done. Chassis is all brand new... better than day it rolled off the line.
