Panasport Tire Size Question
I just got my Panasports back from the powercoating shop and they are SWEET. Gunmetal gray with polished lip, and gunmetal gray Panasport center caps. It's going to look awesome on my 666 silver '67 when she's ready next decade.... Some pix of the wheels to follow when I have time.
Question is this - these are 0 offset wheels, and the fronts are 15 x 6 and the rears are 15 x 7. So - for the rear - that means I need a tire that will stick out 12mm less on the outside than the 195's I have on my '69 w/ the +12 offset. They JUST fit w/ the perfectly lowered.
The fronts are also 0 offset but smaller and simpler to make fit.
So - what are your thoughts on tire size for front and back. What should I put on them?
Cheers
James

Re: Panasport Tire Size Question
15x7 zero offset is tough for the back
try running 185/55/15 all around, or 195/45/15
15x6 +10 was a tight fit all around on my roadster, with 195/50/15s
another option is to machine the mounting pad a few mm to make them positive
ps...great color choice! reminds me of gerardo's 67.5:

Re: Panasport Tire Size Question
Thanks Alvin - I knew you'd have some experience w/ these. I have 15 x 7 +12 Rotas and they fit ok w/ the front fenders rolled a little. I have 195 55 tires.
I agree the rears are going to be a problem. I need to find a machine shop to machine the faces and I might take a little bit off the drums too.
Do you think 185's will have too much shoulder on the front 6" width wheels? I was thinking to run smaller tires in the back. This car has comp suspension all around and a comp Nissan front bar so I don't want to collapse the front sidewalls or "schmoo" them around too much.
My wheels look exactly like Gerardos btw - but with a shinier lip
Work was done by Westside Coatings here in Houston - the same folks that did my 67 frame.
Cheers
James

Re: Panasport Tire Size Question
james i don't think the shoulder is too tall, for performance or aesthetics
this 15x6 +10 with a 195.50/15 tire:

depending on which comp spring you are running rubbing should/not be a problem
what would bother me is if the tire sticks out past the fender
185/45 is also out there, bu then you run the risk of larger tire/fender gap....
you want to run a :smaller" tire on a wider wheel in back?

Re: Panasport Tire Size Question
I don't know this will work, just an "out of the box" idea.
You might be able to have the axle shaft machined to move the flange in (or new custom axles).
and convert to disc brakes.
You could have the axle housing narrowed, I would bet you would only need to trim the axle length.
You could also get any thing from a RX7 or speedway engineering quick change axle in a custom width.

Re: Panasport Tire Size Question
Haha, no kidding Alvin - that gloss black chassis is a thing of beauty. I also picked up a few more goodies from the powdercoater, along w/ the wheels - like my black wrinkle dash and glovebox cover, the steering column, and the fan shroud and radiator supports. They look freaking awesome!
Now back to the wheels, I'm thinking of getting some 175/65/15's so that they will fit into the outer fender lips and have a little bit more height to fill the fender gap. Maybe these:

Or if all my stuff on Ebay sells these:

Cheers

I could not disagree with Alvin more on this point!
There will never be a better time.
Your axle is already clean (what a time saver) Did I read its only painted...not powder coated......
What's the cost of paint? I will send you the 10 bucks!!!
You need to check into having the axle narrowed......I was looking into it today and it was way less than I would have thought!
For a few hundred dollars you could have the rims fitting correcting with a nice big lip.
I remember Alvin admiring the lip on the rear of a car at Solvang and wishing he had done his axle narrower. LOL
There will be a lot more choice of rims
or you could
PUT THE 7s of the Front and the 6s on the back.

Re: Panasport Tire Size Question
Hi guys,
Let me mount the rims on my other car and mock them up. I'll post some pix.
Yes, the rear axle on my 67 is powder-coated and he did a BEAUTIFUL job. I do have a spare axle in my parts stash if I ever decide to mess with one but first I just want to get the car on the road. I have some nicely done-up stock wheels and tires already.
Cheers

SO WHAT ITs his car.Alvin wrote:it's 67.5 2000

At least that way the body would be stock and I would bet there isn't a single person that would figure what is different without being told. LOL
It would be a great IMHO.
I should buy one of the 67.5 2000 frames and titles so I can convert my FJ 67.5 to a legit 2000.
Actually, I went back and read that the axle was powder coated and I agree that he should keep that axle stock.
I would suggest he buy the correct offset rim and run 185 or 195 tires.
I think the car would look great with the 15x7s with disc brakes and the stock axle could be on the wall or boxed up for the next owner.

Rwo more things,
Yes I must be out of my mined (I would modify a 67.5 2000 without a second thought).
I think it might look really cool with 175/65 on 7" rims on the back very (whats that word Alvin?)
