Fuel injection for your roadster

A while back there was talk of fuel injection systems and what was available. Check these guys out, Simple Digital Systems.
They have been building do it yourself EFI for years and keep growing every year. The projects page has some cool cars and even a 671/2 roadster with a SR20DET with SDS EFI, look under 2002

wow looks extremly easy to use, they have some really cool cars that have used there systems also. Good price a kit w/out ignition control is just a little over $800..but throttle bodies?

How could i or anyone else rig up some tbs? single or individual..of course that would look the coolest!

any thoughts?

Steve,

Volume 4, Issue 4 of The Dime, Quarterly a publication all about Datsun 510's covers the making of a custom fuel injection manifold. He used a throttle body off a 240SX for his application, a 2260 cc L series engine. A TB off a 200sx would work better for a 2L stroker. I believe you can still buy single issues of the DQ and if you still want to proceed with EFI, that issue is the Bible for what we want to do.

The SDS seems the best way to go hands down in that WE can program it. It is designed for 1 injector per cylinder though, so will not work for the TWM SU throttle bodies that just use 2 injectors for 4 cylinders. The TWM systems are very spendy plus you need a lap top to program them. I investigated the TWM SU throttle bodies which at first glance seem way cool, but they are over $1000 plus you need a ECU that costs another $1000. I talked to TWM and then they referred me to some guy in LA for the ECU is how I know all this. As you know, TWM makes the 1 injector per cylinder systems but they are even more money than the SU TB system.

Others have said that EFI for our strokers would get you into as much or more money than a SR20/KA swap in a hurry. Now do you see what they were talking about?

I still have this niggling desire to build my own EFI intake manifold though. It just takes a lot of money and time. In the meantime, I am driving my Stroker and getting a smile-a-mile out of it with the SU's.

i just want to build up the stock motor..to be diff. i don't see why we can't get 300hp out of these turbo..when they are getting over 400hp on a miata 1.6.
EFI and a turbo would get alot of attention.more so than a sr20 swap that alot of people have

thanks for the info. I just wonder if the ecu kit is complete. is there anything else that i would except an intake and tb?

Check out the supercharged U20. Extremely clean, well-built, lots of custom stuff (like the front of the head cut off!), and I'm sure cost a TON of money. IIRC, the Miata engine was designed with turbocharging in mind (i.e. extra-strength internal components) but never released from the factory that way. That combined with a DOHC design and modern technologies, along with the economy of scale, allows people to buy bolt-on Miata turbo and supercharger kits for $1,500 to $5,000.

Is it do-able in a Roadster? Sure. How much money you got?

You should be rewarded for being so dedicated to a cause.

You're right in that the Roadster engine should be super strong. Drop forged steel fully counterweighted crankshaft (U20-the one in my stroker), drop forged steel con rods that have the same size con rod bolts as a 427 Chevy

So why not 300 horses or more? Build your own EFI manifold, turbocharge it, figure out where to mount all the sensors to make it all work and away you go. Custom forged pistons and total seal rings. I read somewhere that they turbocharged a Vette to over 880 hp to achieve over 250 mph in a street driven car, a/c and all. That's a V8 pushrod engine so why can't we do the same with a 4 banger push rod engine?

I hope you have a great paying job and bring this dream to fruition and write an article all about how you made it work cuz I am dying to read it

There is another guy out there from Alaska named Jason who has turbocharged a bunch of L series engines with great success that did it all on a very tight budget and reading his stuff might give you some more ideas. I think you can find him by typing in www.jasons510tech.com.

Just go to the WWW and type in Turbochoice in the search bar and that will get you to Jason's site. He has brainstormed or built a bunch of turbocharged L series and it should give you lots of ideas on how to proceed with the Turbocharged killer R Stroker motor.

thanks i have seen hi stuff very cool.
Im hoping to be stroking it here very very soon.
While im doing that trying to get all the stuff from the 200sx to efi it.
Build a custom intake that will move it enough out of the way to fit a turbo.

there is a turbo roadster already but i can't find pics..anyone know where they are at?

and o in japan they do have a turbo miata engine
