Greetings from sunny Aus!

I've been visiting this forum for a few years now, so I figured it was about time I came out of hiding and registered!

I'll tell you a little about my car since it may be of interest some - especially those with an interest in H20/strokers.....

My car is a red 1965 1600. Powered by a H20, it also has 40mm webers on a custom manifold, 4-1 extractors, 2000 radiator and oil pump, comp oil pan, viscous clutch fan, 240k 5-speed (currently installing a 260Z 5-speed), konis, comp springs, and slotted disc rotors.

Some of the things to be found inside this H20:
U20 flat top pistons
block and head shaved
CR of 9.8:1
high lift cam similar to U20 B cam
crank/rods/pistons balanced
ported head
larger inlet and exhaust valves
head port matched to inlet and exhaust

With only 1000km on it, this engine turned 85kw (115hp) at the wheels, at 5700rpm. That's with 34mm chokes in the webers, which I think may be limiting ultimate horsepower, so I am trying to find some 36mm chokes for it. With the current setup though the low-mid rpm torque is amazing.

The engine was built by Lou Mondello - our local roadster guru.

I'm also a member of the Datsun Sports Roadster Club of Victoria. Check out our website at (http://www.dsrcvic.com)

Cheers!
Mike

Hi Mike,

Sounds good! Good luck with the 36mm chokes. What you have done is something similar to what I am/was planning eventually.

Welcome.

Hi Mike,

Glad to have you on board :D

I too have a stroker. I am wondering whose larger intake and exhaust valves you used and what size they are? And are you using an aluminum or cast iron head?

The head is cast iron (H20 head) - actually, the guy who did the head porting hates me! he had to remove a lot of material, and being cast iron, it took him forever!!

The valves are out of a late model Ford Falcon XR8 (Aus Ford), for memory they are 44mm and 35mm. The same valves can probably be found in some US market Ford V8.

What was involved?...

The box was there when I bought the car, so I didn't do it, but I believe mating the box to the H/R/U engines is a matter of using a bellhousing from a 720.

The main issue is actually the rear mount on the gearbox. On the later model 5 speeds, the rear mount is further back, and in the roadster is positioned above the chassis X. You need to fabricate some fancy brackets to make it work.

Have you tried 36mm chokes in the webers?

Hi Lars,

No I have not tried 36mm chokes in my webbers.

I now have a set of 44mm Mikuni's with 37mm chokes - not installed yet, but that is the next project.

Hey Mike,

Is that a 720 bell housing from a Z22/24 or the SD22 ?

I want to convert the silvia to 5 speed - I have a spare gearbox, just need to know what sort of bell housing I'm after.

Cheers,
Craig.

It's the bellhousing from the diesel. SD 22 or SD25.
