Count me in for going on the run, this weekend it is supposed to be hot in the Valley so a run to the Coast will be a nice relief from the heat....Bill

Wow... what a great day for a fun run!

We had 5 cars to start off-- Bill and Karen Neal in their 68, Bill Cole in his 70 roadster, Dave Jolliff in his 66, Jack Scoville in my 66, and I was lucky enough to drive Eric Straw's 69 as he was off doing wedding duty with his girlfriend. Dave Neal joined us later after a road-side tech session in his 68.

Our route was taking us on HWY 34, on the Alsea hwy, which is one of western Oregon's best roads. There is a 2-mile section just before Mary's Peak that has the best cambered corners, elevation changes, and pavement that is PERFECT for roadsters. I drove ahead of the group so I could take a few photos, and was just barely in position when I heard the distinct SR20 roar! Jack was working my roadster hard, and the sounds were amazing!

Dave Jolliff and Bill Cole rounded the corners next:

And the Neal's:

We then had a fantastic drive through Lobster Valley, and then out to Waldport where we had to stop to get jackets on as the fog was quickly coming in:

It was a great day out for me, and I was pleased to be able to share my car with my former boss, and dear friend Jack Scoville. At 82 years young, Jack worked the car hard, drove clean, and aggressive-- and could not wipe the grin off his face all day. I think this photo says it all:

Thanks to everyone for a great day today!

Great shots and what an honor to have Scoville drive your roadster...he looks fantastic
what are his impressions of the car compared to when he drove them?

Note the line between the former SCCA racer and, well, the other guys...

Jack loves the car-- really loves the brakes (much better than the originals), loves the responsive engine. He did not comment on it today, but he has said in the past (after driving one of our cars) that he felt that he had a little more top end power with his U20 race engine back in the day. (I will have to ask him about that again next week now that you have asked).

After I was playing with him with the turbo car, he of course wanted another 50hp, a race seat, and stickier tires, but what racer doesn't?

Really, this is the second time he has driven a roadster "in anger" in nearly 40-years (the first was to the Shedd BBQ a few weeks ago!) Other than a few blasts around the block with our cars, and a few others over the years, this is by far the furthest he has driven a roadster since I was in diapers.

It really was a special day today...

Great pics, I think your 66 is the perfect roadster, tight, clean, reliable, meets emission standards, and Jack Scoville DROVE it! What a great day!

Yes, it was a day to remember, I still have the grin on my face, I woke up that way :D . I followed the 3 sr20 powered cars while we were on some very tight roads that went through the forest land of the Coastal Range of Oregon and just watching Dave, Michael, and Jack pulling the grades like they were flat land and listening and watching to them rocket out of the 180's is priceless to me... Michael, thanks for posting your pics. Plus a big thanks to Bill Neal for having a taste for Choweder and inviting us to join in... Bill

I have a funny tibit to add. I wasn't on the drive, but as I was driving along on a straight stretch of road Sunday, I thought I recognized Michael's car coming towards me.....really fast....and accelerating hard! As I passed, I could see it was Jack. I couldn't help but call Michael and ask "Hey, any chance Jack is driving your car today?"...."yeah, where is he?"....guess he was giving it one last shot before giving the car back....

Man, sounds like a great Roadster run... reminds me of a couple years ago on the way to Shasta via Crater Lake... good friends, great road, and no traffic. Perma-grin!

I saw this a bit too late to participate - chores instead.

My Roadster is a ways from being ready but I'd love to tag along in my somewhat overmatched (HP/weight) Fulvia Coupe and admire some great Roadsters. Hopefully they'll be a few more of these before fall turns to winter.

Thanks for the photos and the reporting.
