I recall seeing a similar type of grill badge back in the early 90's at a small hobby shop in Stratford-Upon-Avon in the UK.
The original quality of the badge isn't that great. The chrome bezel is actually plastic, not made of metal. It seems like its a generic outer bezel with an inlay emblem in the middle. For reproductions, it may be easier to create new art-work of the inner emblem, and then find a nice generic outer bezel to use.
These are really cool. I just got one for my collection too. I think they are reproductions, mine came from Malta as well. but I don't care, it's very cool
