Rack ans Pinion

Post by farmer »

Hi Guys,
I have just finished a complete rack and pinion conversion, I can tell you it requires a complete reconstruction of the crossmember, but it can be done, I had to get a engineers cert for the mods. But now have a steering system with only 2 tie rod ends, and almost no slop in the steering.

It seems people are not interested in this solution? and the question has been asked on this forum more than once? And I have replied more than once. Weird.

I do not think it is that people are not interested but more that there are not many that are. I would like to see and read about how you did it. What car did you use the rack and pinion out of? I know you downunder folks have some automobiles we have never heard of in north america. Got any pictures you want to share? You can use the personal album feature located on this forum. There is a size restriction but that should not be a show stopper. Thanks.

No Problems,

I will upload some photos tomorrow, the rack was out of a 280zx, it is just the right length.

I was thinking of a Z car when you mentioned rack and pinion. I have a spare from an early 240Z lying around. My 72 Z car is my second favorite after the roadster. And welcome to the forum.

Farmer,

It may not be something that everyone will want to do, but I for one would like to read about it and see some pics.
