Hi all!
I have been lurking on this forum for a few days, trying to get my wits together. Unlike most of the folks here, who seem to be a combination of Roadies, Racers & Restorers, I am here mostly on an information quest, as part of a "Bucket Item". My roadster is SRL31108559, that I purchased new from Branson Datsun on August 10, 1969. My objective is to get it in a "presentable condition" before I kick, so Grand-daughter #3 won't have to bust her chops to use it for her daily ride. My daily ride is a pair of sneakers, as I put more miles on them than any of my vehicles ( with the possible exception of my Motorhome ). My 311 has had plenty of ups & downs over the last 42 years, but is still in decent running condition ( needs a tune-up & SU carb balance ). I took some recent photos a few days ago, that I will try to post, and I will dig through my old snapshots, to find older photos of the "old girl". On problem, is that I was never much of a shutterbug. I will get more specific about restoration objectives ( and history, for any who are interested ) in future posts. FWIW, my only other "roadster" was a 1938 LaSalle convertible that I bought in 1951, and started to restore, until Uncle Sam decided he needed my help in pushing a bunch of Chineese guys out of North Korea.

Welcome Garry, neat story, and I think quite the rarity that we have a one original owner car! Very neat indeed and nice that you have a plan for it.
Looking forward to the pictures!

Garry,
Welcome and that is a neat story. I think you will find us pretty friendly and when needed helpful group. Good luck with your project and looking forward to some pictures. Burning up here in Iowa- 114 heat index today. Tough to do anything outside in that heat.

Re: Garry from Southern Cal
Welcome Garry,
there is an interested and re-invigorated group here in SoCal, and there are more than one of us looking for recommendations on body and paint work. Contact Chris thru socalroc.net, and he may be able to work in a survey in the next newsletter for local shops which are "roadster fluent".
(I have some dented apron issues myself, that are way beyond my abilities)
If you can, come join us (in roadster or not) at the upcoming event at OC Airport museum (see info below).
I am driving over this week to get a quote from an industrial grit-blast and prime house in Norwalk, as my hood/trunk lid are in need of a respray, and my roadster budget is down in the double digits to the left of the decimal at present, so I'll be doing my own color spray.
Fergus O, also with a 69, srl311-08317, so pretty close
(note: I am very irreverent when it comes to part originality. if it fits and gets her back on the road, it suits me fine)
At this time we have 20 spots left to be reserved (Hopefully for Roadsters).
Registered so far is:
11 - Roadsters
13 - Z Cars
1 - 510
2 - Pick Ups
3- "Other" Datsuns
This is going to be a fun
day out in the Roadster, I hate to see the Z Cars out number us...

Re: Garry from Southern Cal
Fergus,
The last paint work that I had done to the Roadster, was in November 1996, when the old girl was sitting, nearly flat in the garage, on tires that were last replaced in 1987. An outfit that mostly did industrial painting ( Hooter Bros. Enameling, 2460 rosemead Blvd., S. El Monte CA ) sand-blasted all my original rims, and powder-coated them for $140. They are white, but not the original Datsun white. After the 1978 whacking, I bought a can of the original white, and used it for touch-up after the pound-out. I kept the can for years, for periodic touch-ups, but the contents finally dried up so I threw it out.
