steering wheels

Post by glennhuff »

Ok, my 1600 has one of those goofy chrome and foam rubber aftermarket wheels in it. Does anyone know what steering wheels will replace it? I don't want to go with the stock one, because of that oversize padded center. Kinda reminds me of my 67 mustang. Will any datsun wheel fit? I'd like to go looking in the wrecking yards.

I believe the grant steering wheel adapter is #5981 (maybe 5841?); check with your local auto parts store to be sure. With that adapter installed, you can use all the nicer Grant steering wheels (better than the chrome and foam one you've got now). I've got a wood wheel on my '70.

Most of the kits for a Grant, Momo or other "nice "steering wheel have another adapter (5 bolts Grant, 6 bolts others) plate that will bolt to the 3 bolt Grant adapter that is most likley on the car for the chrome/rubber type wheel. There are Lots of nice Grant/Momo type wheels on ebay, some reasonable.

I would assume anything that takes the same adapter kit should interchange, although the horn contact could be a problem.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll go to the wrecking yard, and just get a couple that I like, and see if they fit. I like the idea about ones that use the same hub adapter. There must be a list somewhere.
