My setup came with a straight arm. If the difference is minor, might be worth using it since it's made to fit.

You know, there is an easier way to do this. Rather than building a cable stand, you can get a Weber cable mount that bolts to the inlet side of the carbs and a longer cable. Or, the CB Performance DCOE aircleaners have the cable mount built into it. That way, you don't have a cable over the top of the valve cover.

Here is my latest...the carbs and header are on the car, I have a throttle cable hooked up. When you pull the throttle cable, the carbs work. SO, I guess I'm in business.
Here are the pictures to show some of the obstacles.
Thanks to Will, he welded these tabs on the top outside corners of the header to make them match the thickness of the intake manifold better so the washer would hold both down.

On the bottom middle, the opposite problem. I had to grind the tabs off to make the thickness match

Linkage setup from the top and side. You can see the plate we made, attached the old throttle cable holder, it attaches to an arm that had to be cut shorter to pull from underneath without catching on the manifold itself.


The header does rest against the side of the motor/oil pan, any issues?

Hope to get some serious progress done next weekend, it's Roadster weather in Napa!

Great pictures and nice on the fly engineering. It's a shame that type of engineering was required when it all should have been bolt on.
How's it sound/run??
As far as the header/block clearance, that looks fairly typical, and much like mine. Perhaps a sheet of aluminum or other insulator would be a nice addition?

Hopefully we can get the motor back in the car next weekend. I've got a race this weekend so I couldn't make it up to help install anything. I have to say its looking pretty good.
Hopefully next weekend we will be able to say how well it runs. I have a feeling I'll be doing some tuning and futzing with that linkage setup. We'll see.

The motor is back in the car and looks fantastic. We are hoping to get it running tomorrow. We only hit a couple snags with the install, none of which would have been an issue if the exhaust were redone to work with the headers. We found a temporary solution and it should work till the exhaust can be replaced.
The motor looks great in the car. Can't wait to hear it run.

This is how it looks this morning. If things go smoothly today, we hook up the new starter, wire up the new alternator, drop in the radiator, all new radiator hoses, all new fuel lines, and then I think it's time to drop in the battery and see if it'll fire up!

Yes, Will is building a nice shiny heat shield for me. It'll get added later.
In the garage now, fuel lines are done, radiator back in and all hoses run. Interior is back together. I think we just have to put the horns/filters back on the carbs, hook up the alterator and starter, then add the fluids.

It lives. Carbs are pretty close however there will need to be some adjustments on the throttle pull assembly, its hanging up and not allowing the engine to idle down. It sounds pretty good and seems healthier than it did before with the SUs. We haven't gone anyplace, but I think its ready to take a short test drive. Its all buttoned up, the hood is back on and the exhaust sort of hooks up...kinda...
