Hello, from Sacramento, CA

Post by Booty_Hunter »

I recently purchased a 66' 1600 with a few issues. I needed a new project and something to gain more mechanical skills on. So far I have found this site to be very useful. I live in Sacramento, CA (Citrus Heights) if any local guys want to meet up sometime and teach me a thing or two that would be great. Look forward to meeting some of you and learning from you.

Welcome aboard, you found a great place to start, looks like you did your homework. You should also know that without pictures, it doesn't really exist! :-)

I agree about the pictures. I'm not sure how to post them, although I've never tried.

Is there a forum tutorial I should read to show me how to post an images? Or a section to test so I don't clutter up threads while trying to figure things out?

There is no tutorial that I know of, however, it's pretty easy. Just below the posting area, where you reply, there is a segment titled "upload attachment" -- scroll down a bit when you reply, you'll see it. There is a box that says "browse", click this, find the file on your computer and double click it, or choose "open". Then click "Add attachment".
You can do this up to 6 times for additional pictures - when finished remember to hit submit. If you want to get fancy, you can change the order, add captions or put them in line with the text where you want them. You can't break anything on the forum (maybe on your computer!) so go ahead and play around!

good luck!

Found a tutorial here, a bit wordy, but gets the point across.

We could probably edit this down and put it as a sticky in all forums?

Thanks for the compliments. I will hopefully have it running reliably in a few weeks. I ordered a new 3 row aluminum radiator a while ago and it still has not shown up. After calling the company they told me it is out of stock and they forgot to update the site. I have to call back later this week and see if it came in on a shipment. I'm very anxious to start driving it but have to wait just little longer. Hope the radiator will solve the problem. Beer and bbq are common place at my house, are there very many local members on this site?

Very nice 66. It looks like a great starting point. you made a good move by joining this forum. It has helped me many times from pulling what little hair I have out.

Hey I'm pretty new too but I'm only 20 mins away at the base. If you're up for a drive or need a second pair of hands I'm always up for some practice.

Would love to go for a drive, unfortunately, my car will over heat real fast right now. The radiator has a couple cracks and I don't think the coolant is running through it at all (no leaks). The thermostat is supposedly new but I don't think it is opening up or there is too much air in the system. I'm waiting on a new radiator and hoping that fixes my problems. You can always come over and check out the car though, I'd like to see yours and get a ride in a working roadster.

I would plan on replacing the thermostat. It can be a major undertaking getting the housing off, so start now, have it done and waiting for the new radiator. The 3 row solved my cooling issue, (as a new stock radiator would have also)
BTW, when you install the radiator, tape a piece of thick cardboard to both sides to protect the fins, they are very delicate.
