water pump/alt belt

Post by 67 1/2 1600 »

Anyone know where I can find the belt for the waterpump/alt for the 1600? I dont know if it differs from the 2000? Or what are the dimensions?

Thanks, Joaquin

Joaquin,
Take a piece of rope that will fit in the grooves, and stretch it around the crank, waterpump and alternator, then mesure how long it is with a yardstick/tape measure. Take that dimention down to Napa and they will have a belt that will fit, or be close. If it doesn't fit, take it back and excange it for the next size larger or smaller.

This is from the GM alternator swap in the Electrical section:

fan belt PN 40013 -- $7.00

Don't know if it'll work for the stock alternator. Will's method will definitely work.

Will- I will measure it, and see if pep boys might have it.

Pete- Where did you get that part # from? Is it from Napa?

That part number is listed in the GM alternator conversion article in the 311s.org Electrical Tech Info section:

http://www.311s.org/tech/electrical/singlewire.html

I just copied it. No author listed for the article otherwise I would ask 'em.

another way is to take a cloth tape and measure, then I usually buy a couple belts just under what the measurement is to compensate for the groove.

It is a trial and error approach that will have you going to the parts store a couple times.

I believe the Gates 7335 is a good fit on my '69 1600. That would be a good starting point, anyway.

After measuring, the size of the belt on the roadster, and checking motors at my uncles shop, the nissan sentra 85-89, E15? The belt fits great!
