Hey Everyone!
Hello everyone, I finally got a roadster and now get the joy of restoring it. It needs a lot but I'm psyched. It's a 67.5 1600 (spl311-12797). I acquired the car from someone who purchased it and let it sit for 10 years. It supposedly ran than from a bottle, but now it's questionable. I guess I just haven't had time to really play with it. Hopefully I can get alot of insight and help from this forum...

Re: Hey Everyone!
Welcome to the Forum! How about some pictures!
What are you planning to tackle first? My suggestion, get it running and driving, then work on anything else!

For the moment these are some pictures of the roadster. And I'm planning on trying to get it running to see what it'll need. Than obviously all the rubber on the car needs replacing, like hydraulics, and fuel lines, carbs, and gas tank. Basically I had to do the same to my 240 when I got it. It sat for 15 years in florida.

Re: Hey Everyone!
How is the body, from those pics, it looks like you might have some substantial rust issues? You may want to carefully assess the body and frame before spending a lot of money on this, hopefully the pictures are not telling the whole story! How about some under hood and interior shots too?! It should be fun and an interesting addition to your stable of rides!

I ain't gonna lie it's got cancer. But it can be cured. Floors, trunk lid, and front lip of the hood are the worst. Frame is solid, as is the trunk and quarters. God knows how much bondo I'll find under the white paint but seems extremely solid. The car was originally lt blue, with blue interior. No dash pad, just carpet laid on top of it. The previous owner removed the soft top, and the door panels and threw them away. And the owner before him made an interesting intake from plumbing pipe to use a single Holley carb on it. The SU's were gratefully in the trunk though. I know it's a lot of work but I got a good deal on it, and I love a challenge. And at least it won't get crushed.

Well at least you have a great attitude! The top of the water tower (over the thermostat) is a pretty interesting solution as well. I love the throttle return spring, attached to the frame! As much as these tend to vibrate, it must be qute a fight to keep if from always wanting to go back to idle!
Add the brake lines too, as it looks like some creative coupling has been done! The good thing is that the engine compartment looks pretty complete and vendors and forum members can come up with just about everything for these cars - you'll be in good hands!

Welcome aboard! This is a great site. I bought a 67.5/1600 a while back and had no idea what I was doing, and still don't! Lol But everyone here has been very helpful. Ask any question, and you'll usually get some great advice.

Re: Hey Everyone!
Welcome! I agree, it is great that you saved it from being crushed. A little rust is nothing to be afraid of as long as you treat it properly. I too look forward to seeing your progress.

Sadly-Linda has passed away 2022. She was the 311's den mother and drove the first Rare-Parts ball joint project. RIP.
