Hi all - I have been reading for a while but haven't posted much. I have met TR and Alexi back in June (as it was I that purchased his once orange demon) and hopefully will meet the rest of you at Shasta this year - God, money, and time willing : )
I read all of the old posts on LSD's and may have a new twist. Has anyone heard of the Nissan CREW? It is a sedan in Japan that is often used for Taxis. I have been told that they also used the H190 Diff and it was offered with a mechanical LSD (maybe simmilar to the old Datsun pickups?). The difference is that the 311 has slightly smaller diameter axle shafts. BUT I have also been told that it may be able to swap out a few small tidbits to make it compatable w/ the 311 rear end and axle shafts. Has anyone heard, read about , or tried this before? If so your thoughts would be apprecitated. If not I will keep you updated as I find out more
Also (I haven't made it to my barn to check since I heard this) I was told that the 311 Carrier was actually made out of Aluminum and that when it saw higher loading (as it would from a DET conversion) that it will distort over time. But they also said that the Crew had a steel carrier. So - for those of you that have LSD's do you know if you have a steel or aluminum carrier? And if aluminum have you had any "reliability" issues? SLOroadster I read your post a few weeks ago - have you been able to diagnose your rear end failure?

I haven't had any issues with the carrier I'm running (Knock on wood!)...I am running in the single burning tire mode, I'm sure an LSD would put more stress into the system.
When we made a run to Mike Young's, he was swapping what looked like a nodular steel carrier, I think he said it was an easy bolt up, possibly out of an 810 sedan or wagon? Anyone else remember?
Maybe that carrier could be used for an LSD...TR

TR,
The rear end you saw was perhaps a 3.5 that he makes from time to time. His stroker car has one and flies on the freeway. The alloy carrier has been known to crack, the 4.68 and 5.?? rear ends were out of trucks and used the cast iron carriers for some reason (they don't fit in an aluminum one? I can't remember.) What color was the car he was swapping it into?

Sorry, I find modern engine swaps revolting. Keep your G, R, or U series in your Roadster!
