Stock Tire Size

Can anyone tell me what the stock tire size, and rim size is for a 1966 Datsun 1600?

Do 14" rims work? Are they ok?

I noticed when tearing my car apart that the wheels in the back were rubbing the body, so I'm wondering if the offset or perhaps the tires are wrong.

Thanks.

Generally, if you use the Z-car wheels, they fit but have the wrong offset, too far out, and rub.
165 or 175/70/14 is close to original look in modern size.
wider wheels with the right offset, 185 or 195/60-14.
With the perfect offset, I think people have used 205/60-14 or 15.

In my case it's the INSIDE of the wheels that's rubbing in the rear.

They could be Honda Accord spec wheels - they have the right bolt pattern, but the wrong back spacing...

??? I'm going to go with 175/65R14 as the closest match to stock.

I've been running 185/70/14 for 5 years and have been happy with the results on 4.5" wide 14" stock wheels.

Does anyone know if the original tires were exactly 24" in diameter?

The original tires were closer to 24.5".

Closest in appearance in a modern tire that won't be terribly expensive is a 175/70/14. I'm currently running 185/65/14 (better selection of tires) on the stock wheels.

If you are looking for a stock look, consider whitewalls. I think they look pretty sharp with the factory wheels and chrome wheel covers.

The suffix on the tire spec would be "WSW" (white side wall). Current radial options are limited, but there are usually a couple of choices if you look for them.

Looking at Coker Tire, the specs for a BF Goodrich 5.6-14 tire are:
Tread Width: 4.00
Section Width (Actual): 5.90
Overall Diameter: 24.60

The original Toyo's were likely very close in spec.

Here's another reference for tire size conversion from Tire Rack
