Ortega - Palomar -Stone Brewery Tour - Oct 1st

Post by RustBucket »

Hey folks,
Any interest in a tour starting in south OC through Ortega Highway, out to Mount Palomar Observatory, then down to Stone Brewery in Escondido for lunch? I was thinking that we meet at the Starbucks at the corner of Antonio and Ortega Highway. I'd like to roll out at 7:00a. I figure this will put us in Palomar near 10a. We can spend some time there then head down to Escondido (about an hour) for some BEER and lunch at the Stone brewery. They give tours too at the top of each hour if you're interested in that too (I would be). I was thinking of Sunday October 1st.
Here is the proposed path: Google Map
Any takers?

Sounds like fun. I would be interested. Maybe some of the San Diego guys can meet up along the way.

Long time V8-Datsun Roadster buddy, Eric H from Irvine, has returned to the fold (albeit with a stock engine SRL, the V8 roadster went to Oz) is up for this, and I am a definite "maybe" based on events that may come up between now and then.

Details of his last roadster, a well known roarty-snorter with a great "trombones in the brass section" sound when navigating the twisties. (which I always heard from behind, for some reason I never seemed to be in the lead...... go figure)

Stone brewery is great!
We enjoyed the back roads from Grand Del Mar to the brewery back in May. Unfortunately it was in a rental Liberty and not with a group of Roadster brothers and sisters.

Make sure you post pics!

What's the planned route? I'll be in the Palomar area and want to get in on the group ride.

Should be fun.

Should be a good time. Please join!
The route will be:
Antonio and Ortega Highway start 7am
Ortega highway to the I-15, south on the 15, exit the 79 (Temecula Pkwy)

We can meet at the 7-11 at Bedford Ct and the 79 at about 8a if anyone wants to meet up there

We will then go south on Temecula Pkwy, Pechanga Pkwy, Pala Rd to the 76
South on the 76 then Up South Grade Rd and out S6 to Palomar Observatory

I'm guessing we will be at Palomar around 9-9:30a if you want to meet there. Rest and check out the surroundings

Head back down S6 and S Grade and 76 to Valley Center Rd
Valley Center to Valley Pkwy to S. Auto Pkwy to Citracado Pkwy to Stone
I'm guessing we'll be at Stone around 11:30 to noon if you want to meet there.
Choose your own adventure after that. :-)

I'm coming up with the founding members of SDDROC. (San Diego Datsun Roadster Owners Club)

It's a pretty exclusive club , 3 members as far as I know. I saw the "president" wearing a SDDROC T-Shirt at the Solvang Show in 2009. I asked what membership entailed. He said "gimmie $20 for a T-Shirt and you're in".

Sorry, I gotta spend the weekend sorting nit-picky things prior to the SoCal TT on 10/7 & 10/8.
I believe Eric has pulled the plug as well, butI will double check with him.
Maybe next time.

Ha ha ha. That's about where we are. 4 unofficial members: RoadsterMike, Vinnyz, RustBucket and myself.
Potentially 5 members if 66Dustin gets his car up and running and we ever meet him. LOL.

I'm tentative at the moment although I think my ride is finally ready for this kind of test. If I go, I'll plan on seeing you guys at the Starbucks.

It was a great run today! Four roadsters from Orange County. We met up with another from Temecula area, and finally four roadsters from San Diego! 9 Roadsters were quite the spectacle to see in the Mount Palomar Observatory parking lot. We then drove down to Stone Brewery for some suds and grub. Funny all the cars were either silver or red. Thank you all for coming. I had a great time.
