Bummer, Eliza has developed a 'now you hear it, now you don't' nasty banging in, I think, the transmission, so I can't take her. Don't have the AAA 100 mile coverage so I will be present to a $10 pm towing charge in my mind.

I'm still going, but in my lumbering SUV. Ah well, so keen to show off my new dash with Frampton gauges.

Oh no Peter! Still happy you’re coming up. Tonight I will upload a route that was suggested by Phil. It’s pretty scenic so I think most of you would approve.

Hi fellow Roadster enthusiasts!
Here are the tentative driving directions to avoid most freeways. As you recall, we’re meeting between 10:00 & 10:30 at the Bowlero off of Woodlake in Woodland Hills & 101 this Friday 4/27/18.

https://goo.gl/maps/tqqRZchtbQv

There is a portion of freeway we want to avoid in Santa Barbara but it seems that google maps is not letting me go through Montecito, perhaps of the recent fires and road closures but we can try on the day of our excursion.

Lunch will be about two hours out so it will be in The Ojai area.

I have to give credit to Phil from San Diego as he was the one that inspired this route!
See you this Friday!

That’s a great route. I’ve been on most of the Ventura County and Santa Barbara Co roads both in my cars and on my bicycle.
Unfortunately, I’m going to take the boring straight 101 route from Camarillo to Buellton and not take San Marcos Pass (154).
Some words of caution: after you climb Old Balcom Canyon Road you head down a very steep section (probably 15%) and there is a 10mph corner near the bottom with no guard rail so be careful. Lunch in Ojai should be great but be aware that The Ojai tennis tournament (oldest US amateur (and some open level pros) will be going on at Libbey Park on the Main Street so parking may be hard to come by downtown (try parking on a side street).
Hope to meet you all Friday night and Saturday/Saturday night. I’m hoping having name tags will help us all meet.

That route looks just too good. If that is the route decided on I can link up with you on Los Angeles Avenue (highway 118) and fall in behind your caravan. I will try and park at the westbound truck weigh station which is on the right side of the road about a mile or so before you make the right turn onto Balcom Canyon. If someone can call me on my cell (805 338-0140) when you leave Woodland Hills or when you exit the main 118 wide freeway I’ll be ready to join you.

I highly recommend you consider the lunch stop to be at Boccali’s Pizza and Pasta located at the bottom of the Dennison Grade on highway 150 just about a mile before you enter downtown Ojai. It will be on the right and it has a beautiful outside deck with umbrellas or some picnic tables under the trees. There are about 10 parking spaces right along the road and next to the patio where we should be able to park together. There are a few other spaces also available. Food and deserts are great.

nice route Ray, good timing should get us into Solvang around check in time.

Hey Phil, great memory! yes, 60 mi. from Woodland Hill, turn off in Ojai, up the 33 to 166, gorgeous valley farmland, quiet and no traffic. Rolling hills, along a river (through a river if I remember) and a little diner near Ventacopa, Vickey & Alick's Place, or just "the place", then up and over the hills into Santa Maria to 101. Adds another 90 miles ( +2hrs ) cruising, you'd arrive at 4-5pm. Only bummer, had to drive past wine tasting without stopping to get into town, but... a nice drive, bring you sunscreen :)

We may turn off and head for the hills, see how things go.

Man I love California, I almost forgot, along Hwy 101 we stopped for a Beer at Firestone Brewery near Buellton - Solvang is in the 805 after all!

Thanks Ray
It will take me about 20 minutes to drive from my house to the truck stop so if you call me when you’re leaving your meeting area I’ll be 10-15 minutes ahead of you so I can join the tail end of your caravan when you drive by me. I’ll probably be a slower driver around the corners than the hopped up SRLs since I’m not 19 anymore.
