2018 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion 8/23-26

Post by Alvin »

Datsun Fans!

By now you've heard that Nissan will be the featured marque at the 2018 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. ZONC has stepped up to sponsor the Nissan Car Corral AND Parade Lap with discounted general admission too!

Details:
http://www.zcarblog.com/2018/03/16/even ... union.html

Please spread the word! We want an impressive showing of all our cars in the corral. I've been attending this event since the 90's and it always made me wonder when WE could park our cars in the coveted 'featured marque' area. Now WE are the featured marque! Only took 45 years to be recognized. It's a good time to be a Datsun owner.

Wow! We are always gone for my birthday that weekend, but this year the event is a little bit later and we will be there. Nearing completion on all our upgrades this weekend. Excited!

For anyone thinking "should I bother?"

The answer is yes. The cars are literally spectacular. And they are driven. There is nothing like early morning coffee and screaming v12s...

There will be a ton of great people there, and some real apples too..lol

Walking through the paddock is just amazing, and no one gets upset when you look in the seat, or under the hood...

At last count, 13 roadsters racing. How awesome is that? Of those, at least 3 former National Championship winners. (Phil Mendelovitz in the Stoddard car, Mike in the Rock Vest car, Bill Wessel in the Joe Hauser car) also the Ernie DeJackmo car is in (Not a National champ winner, but close), Craig Carter in the silver "salt damaged roadster" Ron Carter is in, and a list of others as well. Its going to be epic.

I assume that this is a spectator event. If someone came to this event, What would the best airport to fly into be? Any hotel recommendations?

Yes, definitely for spectators. Fly into SBA (Closest to Laguna Seca) or SJC (about and 1hr north).
Try to stay near Salinas, if Monterey isn't booked already

Epic spectator event. Paddock walk thru is mind-blowing. Seeing the hero cars you just looked at screaming up the hills is over the top...

John Lorio and I reserved our hotel this weekend. As Mike mentioned, rooms are already starting to sell out. We're about 15 miles away in Salinas at about $350 a night. Even the 2 Motel 6 hotels (closer to the track are $180/night but have TERRIBLE reviews). The Pebble Beach Concours d' Elegance is going on at the same time.

We thought about attending the Pebble Beach event but tickets are $350 each so too rich for us.

We're looking forward to seeing everyone (we'll probably bring one car).

Its an epic spectator event. Here are my pics from 2016, all taken from spectator areas. https://www.flickr.com/photos/47309961@ ... 2706817401

I'll be there wrenching on one or perhaps two cars. (Hoping to get photo credentials as well.)

Will, if your car pictures are as good as your airplane photos I'll be anxious to see them!

Click the link above. They are all taken from general admission accessible locations. If (big if) things work out, I'll be well polished with my shooting as I have media credentials for the EAA Oshkosh airshow in late July. (I just need to figure out the logistics of getting there, staying some place, and then getting home) Monterey has been my warmup for Reno in years past, If I can use Osh as my warmup, Monterey should be epic assuming I'm not fixing either of the two possible cars I'll be wrenching on. (I'll be working on the #44 Ernie Dejackmo car for sure, not sure about my friend Tim Arnett's car yet.)

Will, are you bringing your roadster to 'Seca for the Historics? We are trying to get as many as possible in the car corral/paddock

I don't know yet. I'd like to bring it, but I have not idea if I'll have the good head back by then, or if I'll roll the dice and hope I don't drop a valve seat. If it makes it down it will likely be in the paddock. I'll say this much, I'd wager that it will be there. I'd hate myself for not bringing it to the largest gathering of racing roadsters in modern history.

Hey guys. So as you may know I'm a noob to all of this but a very "gitty" and excited noob hahaha. This event looks awesome! But anyways to my question after my noob comment... where is this? Anyone have an address? I want to see how far this is for me and see if I can make the drive with my roadster. I'm in Orange County, CA (Costa Mesa to be specific)
THANKS!
