Solex,

I'm not sure what the criteria is. But I like both your car and navigator better than mine!

[quote="GeoffM"]Cool Alvin. That top pic looks like the Del Dios Hwy if I had to guess. We just got back spending a week roaming around that area. The second best part of that highway is that it takes you to Stone Brewing in Escondidio ;)[/quote
I grew up in Escondido .. I'm going to look into this . y'all must love it because there's 3 pages here already..

I made it down yesterday with only a little drama. Fuel pump failed at the 15/91 interchange,( only about 1k miles on it) but after a tow and a *roadside* electric fuel pump installation, I am back in business. Nice thing with these old cars is you can still fix most problems relatively easily.

Yes, three roadsters made it this year. a red 67 1600, silver 68 2000 ( I think) and my 67.5 1600. The red roadster (Larry) from Temecula, silver 68 (Dick from San Diego) and me, (Orange County). It was 200 plus miles of mostly San Diego County back roads. It ended up in Orange County at the Mazda headquarter with a food truck and a tour of their basement of cars. I didn't take too may photos as we were on a tight schedule and not too much photo time. Overall the day was great and had a blast. Lots of winding roads and some beautiful countryside that I never seen before and I've lived in socal all my life. The only downside was that I reached about 100 (I heard 107 but didn't verify it  ).

Some great cars where there, including several right hand drive bluebirds. Here are some of photos I took. Hopefully some of the press and event staff there will share there photos as well.

My car ran great, except it started to have problems starting after the stops due to the heat and my throttle spring kept getting lose so my idle kept falling down below 500 rpms at idle. My hand throttle knob saved the day for me... Overall, only a few mishaps on a few cars but the roadsters made it the entire way. The red roadster experienced a low oil pressure reading on his gauge but despite that, he pushed on and made it the entire way. The silver 68 had no issues and his u20 sounded great. The three roadsters where the only convertibles with the tops down...

Sorry my update wasn't as good as Alvin's coverage... :D

I concur with Mike. We had a great time!
It was hot and the car at times felt like it was going to start missing. But I think it was just loading up and cleared itself on the next stretch. It did show really low on the oil pressure gauge at one point but I think it was just a gauge issue. On one of these events, every noise makes you feel like disaster is coming! Then there was the parking brake mishap and my self-rolling car was stopped by another participant. I was envying those with AC on this trip. But us roadsters looked cool even though we were hot. It was great to meet Mike and Dick!
