Those are good times since you are avoiding rush hours and the Sunday afternoon Santa Barbara to LA traffic. Always allow plenty of time though.

BTW, I'll be heading down a few days early, coming from the SF Bay Area. We will stay a night in Paso Robles and do some wine tasting all day the next day, then to San Luis Obispo and on to stay a night in Pismo Beach, driving sand buggies on the beach... and drinking some more wine. By the time I get to Solvang, I'm really gonna need a beer. Or a soda.

If you use National Rental Cars, the Emerald Aisle at LAX is cool, you can get a fun car sometimes.

I know, I know... but I had a choice: 1) bring my Roadster or 2) bring my wife. The two were mutually exclusive. One way you stay married for 27 years, and avoid costly lawyers, is to know exactly when it is time to choose #2 over #1. She is game for any 1-night or 1-day trip in the Datsun. 6 Days? Not so much.

Besides, I'm pretty sure there will be many wonderful examples of Roadster eye candy in Solvang, such that my DD-quality car won't be missed too much.

Well Dave, if and when I make it to Solvang I will arrive in my jet which happens to be owned by some airline and my car which will happen to be owned by some rental car company.

I like my roadster but driving several hundred miles in it is not going to happen. I bought it in the Bay area and drove it home to Washington 800 and some miles. It was okay except for the leaky clutch slave cylinder, mild overheating and fuel pump that went out by Mt. Shasta going up the big incline necessitating me installing an electric fuel pump I bought at the nearby boat marina. Thank goodness for the Morris Minor car nuts that I had met earlier at the gas station in Redding that stopped to help my wife and me.

And there was the rather tired, anemic 1600 engine trying to climb the incline. Yep, that's why there is a stroker in there now.
66 stroker, almost done.
67 basket case, paint coming soon.

If I make it down, I will be in my M3 rather than the roadster. Show up with whatever you have. Not a big deal.

Sorry, I find modern engine swaps revolting. Keep your G, R, or U series in your Roadster!
