Validity of various "liberties" with the term "coast" will be decided by the judges.
Kevin Reid is in charge of the coast event. Maybe he will enlighten us as to the "rules" (such as they are!)

Looks like umbrellas and parachutes are OK, maybe get some new shoes to drag your feet or have the family jump in the car near the end.
I could be a good trainer for this event if I could just get there! :smt005

Looks like I might be in the running for the Iron Butt after all...

Got the week off work, unfortunately I can't make it to Vancouver to meet up with Ross & his trailer. So I'll be taking the scenic Kootenay BC route, nothern Idaho, across Oregon to Crater Lake then south to Shasta. Leaving on the Monday and meandering southward. Should be at Crater Lake sometime on the Thursday... hopefully meet Ted and his caravan.

I'll document with an odometer shot leaving first thing Monday morning and a final shot at Shasta.

I'll be there sans the wife (WARP drive, engage!!!!). Not sure how much water there will be to wash cars (or take showers!) but should be a great time for all!

How often has it rained or had thunderstorms during the 3 or 4 days surrounding the event during the past 31 years?

I saw yesterday that the 10 day forecast was showing 90% chance of thunderstorms on Saturday. Today it says Saturday is good but Friday has 50% chances of rain and thunderstorms. That is probably not good for the fun runs and stuff.

I am hoping that all changes and we get nice cool dry weather. A lot can change in a week forecast wise.

But has it ever been a rain out?

I am used to weather in the SF bay area and we pretty much never even think of rain in June through September.

It would be nice to not have rain on the travel days too. My roadster has not seen rain since it was pulled out of someones yard a decade ago. It might melt! ;-)

I guess it would be a good test of the rag top and wipers. I wonder how long they would run before the motor or wires burn up......

Put rainX on the windshield, and maintain a speed above 40 and below 85.. You need not worry about top or wipers..

Actually, the late cars wiper assy is quote robust.
Agree with Mike, an application of RainX helps resist small rock chips as well.

Hope it doesn't rain! All she wears is the bikini top, and a car cover that is not likely water proof. I might find out what it's like to sleep under a bridge!

Awesome!
Hey, just wanted to remind those of you getting ready for this or any other long trip... Listen to that little voice in your head that says "you need to check that..." Yesterday I was going over the car in prep for leaving on weds. On my list was drive shaft bolts... Not that they had given me any indication of problems, etc. So I'm pulling the jack over to the car, and I'm thinking "they're fine, probably don't need to do this, pretty sure I used thread locker last time, blah blah blah." Then another voice says, "Oh Greg, just do it and stop being so lazy." So I crawled under the car to find all four bolts loose at the diff... Not much, but I could turn them at least a turn on all four. And no thread locker.
Listen to yourself... At the very least you'll have peace of mind!
Safe trip to all, see you soon!

Got the ice cream maker packed, car on the trailer, a couple sets of freshly refurbished carbs, and carb tuning tools. I will get around to clothes and other trivial things some time. Leaving early in the morning tomorrow. I am so ready for a few days put of town.

Good point Greg! The little "what ifs" started working on my mind yesterday. No peace of mind, so I came home to the garage, the trip checklist and a dozen small adjustments.

Carl Jaeger, wives and I are crossing the border at 6:00 am tomorrow and having breakfast south Seattle somewhere along the I5. Join us if it fits your schedule. We are stopping overnight in Shedd and joining up with locals and more from Roseburg Thursday morning for the last leg to Shasta.

Looking forward to the great drive and reconnection! Safe drive everyone! :)
