Way to go Ed and Dave - really glad to hear your cars made it in.

So Dave - are you going to replace your exhaust header w/ the stock exhaust for the show? That should be easy - right? hehe!!!

Cheers

I am sooooo amped about this event, particularly for Datsun Roadsters. I don't know of any Concours that has actually judged our cars, by the same 100-pt standards as others. It sure will be interesting to find out how the judging works!

I received a letter today stating that my car was accepted. A few weeks ago at the San Leandro J-Tin show I was encouraged to enter it by one of the organizers. I sent my application in just under the wire.

There are a few non-stock items on the car and it isn't as perfect as some of the other Roadsters that have also been accepted, but it should be a good time and a memorable experience. The car will be pretty much the way it was in Solvang. Hopefully some of the Bay Area locals will come out and join us.

I also signed up for the Saturday Tour from Larkspur to Sonoma Raceway, so it will be a full weekend.

Can someone help Ed out with his wheels/tires?
Ed, I think I can help you out with hubcaps. I need to dig around in the parts loft to locate them. I think I have a couple of sets. They are all driver quality, not concours. No rust or putting but light surface scratches from use if I recall

PM me if you are interested and I can get you some pics. Might be best to go the rechrome route?

Alvin, this event is a great milestone. You owners with the super sweet cars need to get out there and make a showing for the SPL/SRLs!

Yes, let's get some respect for the Japanese contribution the the automotive world! I was just at the LeMay car museum and there were NO Japanese makes... Not one. And I've been to his other big stash, and I THINK there was a 280z...
I was thinking that I should approach them about having some JDM cars visit the place, and DROPS could fill the parking lot...

Congratulations on your acceptance - nice to see cars other than a Toyota 2000GT in the limelight.

I wonder though, if there are sufficient cognoscenti among the judges to KNOW enough about roadsters to give it it's due.

Small things, like the finishing washers under the cowl screws, proper x-hatched screws on the carbs etc.

I had a friend lose some points on his MG because he had the fabric 'washers' under his battery terminals. Picky indeed.

Good luck indeed .

Just a quick update tonight...

Dave Premo and I drove the Tour d'Elegance this morning from Larkspur to Sonoma Raceway via an 80 mile scenic route through redwoods, farmland and vineyards with a wonderful mix of cars dating from the 20's through the 70's. We drove 3 parade laps on the track with the other participants before lunch was served in the suites above the grandstands. Then we watched some of the afternoon races and were free to roam around the pits and check out the mix of vintage race cars that came in for the weekend.

According to tomorrow's Concours program there will be a total of 13 cars entered in the Japanese Manufacture class - 8 Datsuns and 5 Toyotas.

Roadsters will be represented by 5 examples: four '67 SRLs and my 67.5 SPL. Other Datsuns are a '72 240z, a '73 1600 (510 with Mexican plates - we saw it today on the Tour) and a '78 280z

The Toyotas entered are a '67 Sports 800, three Celica convertibles - one each from '83, '84 and '85 and an '85 Supra.

More to come on Sunday.
