Thread size question

Post by Fairlady5150 »

I have a '68 1600 with an early engine and I'm considering a Champion radiator with electric fan. The fan comes with a 3/8" npt sensor. Does anybody know the size and thread of the fitting in the block just above the temperature sending unit?

Why don't you just keep it all original?🤣

I'm going to be using the same GM 3/8" npt sensor for my EFI system, so I know what you're asking about, but not on a 1600. If you find you cannot use your desired access point, consider one of the universal fan switches that uses a sensor that fits in between the fins on the rad. Not quite as clean an install, but you can set the temp that the fan comes on as needed. Mine has worked flawlessly for 20 years.
You may also find an alternative that is the correct size/pitch for the hole once you figure it out... do a google search.

Check it carefully because Datsun used BSPT (British Standard Pipe Taper) in places for the cooling stuff.
66 stroker, almost done.
