Horn Button Assembly

Post by RichardA »

Hi:
I have been unsuccessful in correctly assembling the horn button for my 1967.5 Datsun 1600. I have assembled the parts in the order depicted in the photo. However, the horn will not sound when the horn button is pushed. It will only sound when I unscrew the pigtail wire from the hotplate and manually contact it to the threaded steering shaft rod. I think I may have the rubber o-ring (“spring”) in the wrong place. Any ideas would be appreciated! I’ve been totally frustrated. Thanks!!

Go to the parts micro fiche in the tech wiki. There are small differences between the '67 and 67.5.

Where is the wire that makes the connection? It should run from the back of the foam piece to the metal plate. There should also be a spring behind the foam piece.

You are absolutely right! I had no idea from research that there was a horn spring for 1967.5.
Thank you Richard

Hi, is therea triek in assembling a 1967 half horn button ? I cannot get the components over the rubber "tire" . The parts were dis-assembled a few years ago and kept in a plastic bag.Now that I have completed the restoration , I cannot install the Horn button. Help. Angus. angusnellaj@ gmail.com

Note it's recommended to wear rubber gloves on horn work as the horn coil is only 2k volts, but high amp
The ign coil is low amp . Our Datsun dealer stopped 35 and up techs from any horn work .
if not insulated right inserting the key can shock the bajeebees out of you ,it can be deadly on 100 degree days and a person gets into a 160 ° interior ,then gets shocked
The current flows Neg side ( the field)
To pos ( the draw) ever heard a top tech ask you, is it drawing power ? after you asked an elect. ?
Some upgraded horns are what to really watch out for may have a capacitor to build amps
