Door questions

Post by tcslc »

I disassembled my doors yesterday and have a few related questions for the forum. Thanks for responses.

In photo below, how does the pin come out to release the door hold linkage (black arrow)? How have folks fixed the sheet metal tear issue on the door hold, and is this common (red arrow)?

In this photo, what is this clip at the inside bottom of the door for?

Lastly, my car is originally from Georgia and lived in the Northeast for years but fortunately isn't very rusty. Is this an aftermarket rust-inhibitor sprayed in the doors by Datsun or is this aftermarket (Rusty Jones, etc)?

Grind off the bottom of the swaged rivet to get the door limiter off.
Can't tell what the clip is.
That is factory sound deadener in the door iirc.

I believe the clip at the bottom of the door holds the rubber "block" that is the lower window stop. The clip used is similar to the clips used to keep interior panels to the car body although smaller

Thanks to both of you for the good info. The clip explanation makes sense as to what that rubber block was laying in the door and where it should mount.

Anyone seen a sheet metal tear like mine above where the door limited is spot welded? A prior owner must have really swung it open hard more than a few times. Thinking of cleaning the area, pressing it back to flush and mig welding the tear.

The tear from the door limiter is common. I welded mine back on and ground it down real pretty. Now with very limited use and being careful mine is starting to tear again. Perhaps I need to attend welding school , so if you reweld it you should try to strengthen it.

That rubber bumper thing inside the foot well paneling is important to replace so your door doesn’t swing open too far.

you could also drill a plate and put it behind the torn door panel. Use some appropriate nuts/bolts - just a suggestion.
