1970 - NO passenger side brake lights

Post by Jhussung »

I have read through posts and checked bulbs and bulb housings

Drivers side brake lights work - NO passenger brake lights
ALL - turn signals and hazards work on both sides
ALL - running lights- side markers and tail lights work

I have swapped bulbs and bulb sockets and still NO
Passenger side brake lights

Help!

Looking at the schematic in the techwiki, the only different connection to the right hand lights is a white wire with black strip that connects to pin 9 of the hazard switch. Check that connection at the switch. Other possibility is that the wire to the lights is either open or shorted somewhere from the front to the back, I had a lamp wire that came loose and fell on the hot exhaust pipe buring off some fo the insultation. Occasionally the uninsulated part of the wire would hit chassis ground anbd cause no lights...was a bitch to find and it was intermittent so I though the car had real gremlins who liked to mess with my head

If you have a 12v source, like a power supply, battery charger or even a trickle charger, you can inject the voltage at different points, like the brake pedal switch or the hazard switch and see if you can measure the votage at the socket. I dont think a trickle charger will light the bulb because not enough curret but should show voltage on an open circuit. A battery charger will but make sure it is set at low current. Do not use a battery unless you connect it through a 2A fuse. Too much juice!

Well... hazard switch checks out but still no power to light

Gonna start checking harness in sections to find the problem

Alright, I am getting power to the #9 terminal on the hazard switch but no power routes through to the terminal in the switch going out to the w/b wire... I can supply power through power probe and the passenger brake light comes on... I have tried three spare hazard switches and all act the same... I have taken switches apart and cleaned contacts to no avail.... are there hidden contacts in the hazard switch board?

Anyone sell new switches?

Ideas?

Check the connections on the turn signal switch #1 and going out to 2 and 3 when the turn signal is off/ #3 feeds the b/w wire to the tail light.

Check for any corrosion in the plastic connectors at the rear lamps.

Check the connection at the horn relay B+ terminal (power) g/w and see that the g/y wire meets there. It likely does since the left side works

Does the brake light on the dash light when you pull the brake switch next to the radio? It likely does because the left side works... I am betting the the problem is at termal 3 on the turn signal
