Piston rings. Nissan OEM vs aftermarket

Post by Ttiger »

I have a set of genuine Nissan rings that came with my U20 motor.

Some gurus have said the Nissan rings are chrome and won't seat for a long time. Plus the honing has to be different. They recommend iron rings and a standard hone.

Any thoughts?
Thanks

Maybe it should be cast iron vs moly rings?
Molybendinium * not sure about spelling * 9steel
We didnt have in piston rings. In 311s era
With severe detonation or a cyl taper ( more on big American cars than imports) iron rings can break
Moly ring do not break like iron
But are softer than cast iron you want a very smooth bore the hones with the balls of soft grinding stone on the end
Christmas tree hones some call them are to be used very fine grit
I believe if you have iron rings that set for long periods they can rust and rust the cyl were it sat ...and moly wont
But really both are fine
