Parking brake question

Post by funkaholik »

Looking at the parking brake rod that goes through the tunnel, attached to the handle, I noticed that there is a rubber boot covering the left side where it meets the tunnel. The right (handle side) has nothing, and I can see light coming through. This is on a 1970 1600.

Questions:

Is there supposed to be a boot on the right?

If so, are replacements available? I looked on some parts sites but don't see them.

If not available, what are people using instead?

Thanks for any help.

To me it looks like you are missing P/N #16: -

Thanks for posting that. I guess I should have looked in the parts manual!
Part #16 is a metal plate that is actually on the interior side, under the carpet. Mine is there, it is gloss black in the photo below.
But, from that parts diagram, I see that #26, dust boot does not have a companion piece on the other side. So I guess mine is as it should be.

Thanks!
