Fuel pump installation - potential issue with cam?

Fuel pump installation - potential issue with cam?
Is there something I am missing when installing the mechanical fuel pump on 1600 engine? It appear the pump is working I am able to syphon fuel from a gas can by working the level. However when I install the fuel pump and turn the car over no fuel reaches the filter.
Already checked directions (fuel flow) and cleaned the inside of the pump. I've tried 3 separate fuel pumps and same problem. No fuel.
Could it be the cam being flat or a installation error? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Make sure that you have the packing and spacer block, parts O and P, between the pump body and the engine block.

Thank you for the reply nissan man. Spacer is there however no paper gaskets. Will try and source.

I had a problem where there was a rubber line by the tank that kept kinking. I temporarily left some vice grips on the kinks to open up the line.
Moral of the story, check your fuel lines. I believe its supposed to be metal from the tank all the way up. May also want to make sure you canblow air through the line.

Check out your fuel filter by removing it and put lines to it allow you to syphon fuel from your gas can by working the level.
I've had filters which looked to be clean, but they were actually really dirty/varnished up preventing fuel flow to and thru them.

Thats not a R16 death rattle....its a dried leaf hitting my heater blower fan.

I had the same experience on my 1600
Took me ? 4, 5 trys. I think the pushrod was sliding down . long time ago, but usually I use frozen vasoline on the push rod to keep it up , it needs to be in the up position

The arm has to go above the cam, and if the cam is in the right position when you install the pump the arm can go under it.

Of course, you may have an air leak at the fuel filter gasket, assuming you are using the OEM glass bowl thingy.
If the pump is drawing in air somewhere it will never suck the fuel through, been there and fallen for that
Make sure the cork gasket is wet with fuel and everything is centred correctly inside the filter before tightening the wire clamp.

Or just bypass the old original filter for testing and run an inline filter like what you can get at the hardware store.
If the pump was working before it's probably the filter - I had that problem.
