Plaque states 150hp

Post by bergcc »

Everyone, while looking closely at my roadster, someone mentioned that my "sticker" was not original because it states 150hp. Anyone one have insight into how this could be? I never changed this after acquiring the car.

Are you referring to the metal plate? Those were reproduced awhile back and one could select 150 hp if desired and "true" if it was modified to comp specs (cam, carb and timing changes).

The original model ID plate for all US delivered 67 2000 Roadsters where 135 HP. The dealership would install the Solex kit with B cam and oil pan etc. the comp department supplied 150 HP plates to go with the intake/cam package. Few if any of them got installed on the cars. All of Japanese and Australia Roadsters where 150 HP cars, most of the Canadian cars had the package installed at the dealer and they too seldom had the 150 HP plates installed.

All 3 of my 68 2000 have original 150 hp ID tags. All 68 2000 in Canada were solex 150 hp cars. The question raised was why did the BAT car have a sticker and not a stamped ID tag. In 1969 all Canadian 2000 were fitted with SU. Half if the 67.5 Canadian cars were Solex (I have 3 of those also and one 135 hp ) in my opinion the 135 hp is rarer as everyone has bought reproduction tags and converted their car to non original specs. As the saying goes : out of the 600 67 Solex produced , only 1500 remain !!!

This has always been a source of interest to me. My 69 2000 was sold in 1970 and I purchased it in 1972. There was a 150 HP tag on it when I bought it, although it had none of the 150 HP components. The engine had the smog pump removed and the air injection nozzles plugged, but no other modifications other than a glass pack and the resonator removed. At the time I knew absolutely nothing about the roadsters and therefore did not question the seller.

I wonder if mine was a Solex car upon delivery or shortly after as it sat in a barn from 87 until 17, and it has the early type2 solex's

Grant:also known as twistin(has a CDN 68 Solex)
My September 1968 Nissan service bulletin called”INTRODUCTION OF NEW DATSUN SPORTS CAR (1969 MODELS) shows serial numbers that begin the 69 start(and the end of 68 models)

We know that LHD 1968 2000 started at 1000 (Arnold has 01008)
So 6001 1968 2000, of which most went to USA. Let’s guess that 20% (High guess) were Canadian Solex cars and estimate 1200. It’s probably closer to 500.

Ross, do we know which '67 2000's went to Canada by vin number or some other Means? When I bought my car back in '86 at Washington State University it was mentioned the car may had come from Canada, or the student I bought it from was Canadian... one or both.
