Hi windshield gauge removal

Post by nismou20 »

So, I’m wanting to replace the mechanical tach with electric. Forum member Spyder posted a really great alternative but I can’t remember the succession of gauge removal. Will just tach alone come out without pulling either of the other 2 gauges? When I had my gauges refaced years ago I pulled all of them but really don’t want to do it again.

I made a cool little tool by modifying a socket by cutting a slot in it - fits over the 'wings' of the nuts.

Ok...here's what you do.
Remove the drivers seat.
remove the clamp holding the steering wheel column in place.
Loosen the bolts on the floor where the column passes through.
Push the column to the driver side and bunjee it to the door.
Lay on the floor with your head and shoulders under the dash.

Now you can reach up and disconnet the tach cable and remove the wings with the niftyl little tool you made.

Wo, Now pulling speedo sounds like an easier way. That’s a lot of work.

I don't recall doing any of that because if I had I wouldn't have done it. One of those 4 one gallon milk jug plastic holders positioned outside the door allows me to get under the dash.
